Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
I got my Rezound because my fiance' got one and I was ready to leave Sprint. It was the only phone I liked with the Razr Maxx being my second choice. My Rezound worked really well for 2.5 months and then the problems started. The radios flaked out on my phone. It wouldn't make a call, connect to 4G for more than 2 seconds, even WiFi was toast. I had the extended battery from Verizon and I tried the stock and the extended. Off it went for a replacement.
2nd Rezound had a 1/8" scratch UNDER the screen. It looked like a eye lash was under there but I looked at it under my microscope and it was indeed a scratch on the inside. This phone also wouldn't connect to WiFi......at all. Tested on 7 different WiFi networks with both the extended battery and back and stock. Off it goes!
3rd Rezound gets so hot, you can't handle it. Using a thermocouple it reads 148 degrees after about 2-5 minutes of use. Tried with both stock and extended batteries. Either battery will go from 100 to about 60% in about 1 hour with the phone SLEEPING. Tried batteries in fiance's phone after I was fairly certain they were ok and they indeed function fine.
Verizon only offered to send me another Rezound which I think I have a Rezound curse. Got in touch with a Retention Specialist who was very shocked that I've gone through 3 phones in 1 week since the problems started. After some talking with her and her Supervisor, I'm getting a Razr Maxx. I know I'll miss the screen and the camera on the Rezound. My fiance's Rezound works perfectly. It's a great phone but man, I got some BAD luck!

Sorry to hear you had such bad luck with the rezound. Maybe your maxx will be better. I like Motorolas build quality but the fact they lock the bootloader makes stay away from them. I hear the maxx is a nice phone tho. Good luck.

I'm honestly too chicken to try and root something so I should be ok. I'll steal my fiance's Rezound and play with it occasionally. It really is a great phone but I think someone took a voodoo doll of me and a Rezound and stuck some pins in it.

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
You'll enjoy the Razr Maxx. Biggest differences are going to be the screen (bad thing) and the battery (good thing). ICS is a few days away, so I'm sure you'll be able to cope with the change rather well.

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
It seemed like a good choice since I was seriously on the fence between the Rezound and the Maxx when I joined Verizon. Can't say anything bad about the Rezound, I think it's a great phone, I just got crappy ones. I'm really looking forward to the battery life. I bought the extended battery for my Rezound because I do have days where I'm using it a lot.
Maxx is supposed to be here tomorrow. We'll see. - 06-25-2012, 11:49 AM #6
Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
If the Rezound had the Maxx's battery, that would be my phone until the end of time. I think the years of living tethered to outlets and USB ports will let you appreciate the battery on the Maxx that much more, especially seeing how slim the phone is. First thing you wanna do is set up a smart action that shuts off data while the screen is off.
Your battery life is going to be fantastic. - 06-25-2012, 12:42 PM

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
My first Rezound, when it worked, with the extended battery easily lasted me 14-16 hours of "moderate" use. (No games, but lots of texts, Facebook checking, emails, and some web surfing.) I look forward to seeing the life of the Maxx. I usually use Juice Defender Pro to keep my devices in line if needed. I bought that back when I had an EVO 3D and no way to charge during the work day.
We'll see how it works. I appreciate the tips and feedback. - 06-25-2012, 02:04 PM #8
Let us know how it feels using the MAXX after you've had time to get used to it.
Great luck with the new phone!

I will. I'm sure it will have pros and cons. If it wasn't for the fact that this would be my 4th Rezound, I would have stayed with it. My last 3 phones were HTC so I'm sure I'll be beating my head on the wall trying to get it all figured out. I'm hoping the one I get has ICS or at least will get the OTA push.

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
Well, I've never owned a Moto so I don't really have an opinion. I did really like the HTC Sense though. I had an EVO, EVO 3D, and then the Rezound. The Evo took me a while to get used to so I'm sure I'll have some moments with the Maxx too. *shrug* Should be getting the Maxx here in a few hours. We'll see.
I know it's stupid but, I think I miss my EVO 3D the most. It was a neat little phone and the 3D feature was pretty cool. I loved taking pics and videos with it and then showing them to friends. Of course, you could only really show them on the phone unless you had a 3D TV. Still, it was a neat little phone. - 06-27-2012, 08:09 AM

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
So, my first day impression with the Maxx. (If anyone reads this.)
It's a pretty slick phone. I can see pros and cons comparing it to my Rezound. Mostly, I think it's a Moto vs. HTC Sense thing tho. The one BIG difference I saw in the phone is the boot time. Good GOD! It boots up from completely powered off in <60 seconds. The fastest my Rezound ever booted was like 4 minutes. I don't really consider it a pro or con though because, honestly, how often do you need to completely shut down and come back on.
There is a little lag when rotating the screen but honestly that is about the only difference I could really tell. Web pages seem to load faster. The radios DEFINITELY don't have as good of reception as the Rezound but strangely enough, it works BETTER in my apartment than the Rezound did. (We compared it to my fiance's Rezound. She still has to go outside for calls but the Maxx is just fine.)
I already miss the HTC Sense Facebook thing because it added some nice features to the "People" app. I absolutely HATE the way the gallery works on the Maxx. The camera is not as good but takes pretty decent photos. The video seems to work really well. Overall, it's a really nice phone. It fits well in my hand, feels light. It's DEFINITELY much lighter than my Rezound was with the extended battery yet has more battery than it did.
The battery is easily "as advertised" on the Maxx. I got the phone with 60% charge on it. I spent 7hrs 50min setting up things, poking around, downloading all my apps, setting up my emails, etc, etc and still had 22% battery. Today we have a full charge and I'll be using it fairly heavy so we'll see. I watched the temps carefully as I was messing around with it. When I put it on the charger, I started streaming videos. Temp never got over 101F. I'm impressed.
Not saying it's better than the Rezound or anything. Not the point of my posting this. It's a pretty neat phone with some cool features. Looks like I have a lot to learn about it and I'll probably have ICS by the time I get it all figured out and have to learn more. XD
Thanks to all the Rezound gurus here. I've been on Android Central since my EVO and all the forums are pretty good but I think the EVO 3D crowd and the Rezound crowd were the best people I ever read. Very helpful and friendly. - 06-27-2012, 08:20 AM #16
Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
I'm glad you enjoy the phone. At the end of the day, any phone is a good option so long as you don't switch to the dark side (iPhone, Windows.)
I agree with you about the gallery app on the Razr, it sucks some serious ***. I don't know who would even want this media auto-uploading/social networking garbage on their gallery, but Quickpic solved that problem. The Rez felt a little cluttered with social networking, but they got the core apps right. - 06-27-2012, 10:07 AM

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
Man, I'm jealous! The Rezound is a fantastic phone, but (at this point) I would give up the Rezound pros (screen, etc) in exchange for the Maxx's 3300 battery.
I love keeping up with smartphone news and such - but, when it comes to my personal use, a massive battery is more important. I used the 2750 extended Rezound battery for awhile, but I got tired of holding the Titanic in my hands. So, now I use the standard battery and carry a back-up.
I don't root my devices or anything either.
I have an upgrade in November. Hopefully that Razr HD will be out by then

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
I used Friendcaster for a while. It's a pretty good app. Pretty solid. I may start it up again if FB starts getting "wonky". (It seems that official FB app dies every other week.)
I feel you on the extended battery on the Rezound. I had it myself. I can't believe how light the Maxx is and has MORE battery. It's mind boggling. Listen to Dovahkiin, he speaks the truth. There are LOTS of threads all over the net about rooting the Rezound and getting MUCH better battery life. I never did it because I'm a big chicken. I'm a hardware guy, software confuses me. (I'm a hardware engineer by trade)
Yesterday with a full charge, I got a feel of how the phone will work. I left all my background syncing on. I have 4 email addresses, Facebook, and a few other things running. Played games about 30min. Streamed some music. Listened to music off the SD card. Watched about 45min of YouTube. 17hrs 58mins and I still had 28% battery. Phone never got hot. Even when playing games, the temp never crossed over 101F according to the battery indicator app.
Dovahkiin got me sorted out with the Quickpic app and now I'm loving it. There's some differences but nothing really major. After using the Maxx and the Rezound, if I had to choose again, I'd still be on the fence on which to get. I think they are both easily the best phone at Verizon right now. (I'm just not impressed by the Galaxy 3) - 06-28-2012, 11:30 AM #22
Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
If I was some sort of engineering genius, I would create a Frankenstein phone out of the Maxx and toss in the Rezound's screen and camera. I'd also toss in an S4 on that sucker and ROM it with stock ICS/Jelly Bean. Lastly, I'd strip that friggin' Verizon logo off. It's 2012, do we really need this crap? Like when dealerships put a decal or whatever on a used car. I always tell them to peel that off without scratching it before I buy. Anyway, perfect dream phone right there.
But back in reality, I'm with you. I'd feel on the fence if they both released together. - 06-28-2012, 01:34 PM

Re: Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you
I did actually tune the antennas on my old Motorolla a630 and my Blackberry. I've dealt with RF for over 20years. Amazing what fun you can have with a Spectrum Analyzer and Network analyzer. Truth though, the antennas are pretty well tuned. I just added some stub tuning to change the patterns a bit. At the time I wasn't working where I had access to a anechoic chamber and software though. I kinda spitballed it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKING APART THEIR PHONE AND PLAYING WITH THEIR ANTENNAS! (thought I should put that out)
