    Default Rezound as global phone...

Ok, when I had my BlackBerry Storm unlocked I could use any gsm sim card and it worked. What has to be done to do the same with the Rezound?

You have to wait for Verizon to push ICS. That's supposedly when they're going to fully unlock the world phone. However, on certain ROMs, there has been success in using GSM voice networks I don't think they have data working yet.

Isn't the Rezound GSM unlocked, at least for voice, already? Just go into the hidden Network menu and choose "GSM only", then switch out the LTE card with your provider's SIM card.

The Rezound comes factory sim unlocked and can be used for voice via quad band Gsm out of the box by going to the secret menu and changing to wcdma preferred. I use the "lte onoff " app in the Android Market, which is a shortcut to the secret menu. Text and data have issues though and you would have to root and install the appropriate rom for that to work.

Actually I'm afraid Verizon will lock down the unlocked GSM abilities of this phone when ICS is released. As it stands now we can use any GSM provider, even AT&T or T-Mobile in the US. I know Verizon locks out most domestic SIM cards for it's World Phones, even the ones they unlock by request.

I'm 100% noob, but have been following these threads about using the Rezound internationally, especially those who have done it successfully in Britain. I was in Colombia recently and decided to try using a local SIM card. I went to the "hidden menu" and selected GSM, then shut off the phone and inserted a SIM from a friend's phone. When I started up again, there was a message that the phone could only be used for emergency calls. I occasionally travel in Latin America and would like to use a local SIM, not only to enable local calling, but to save money as well. I won't pay US $2.50 to $3.50 per minute for international roaming. I hope the new ICS will allow this.

I can't speak for your specific situation, but many people have been able to use local gsm sim

When ICS officially arrives, I plan to call Verizon to find out what I will need to do to use local services (voice + data) outside the U.S.

    Just 2 more weeks...
