Tethering Help
I am in the market to buy either a Kindle Fire or a Nook Color. I read through bunches of threads talking about whether or not it's possible, root or no root, etc. I am posting this so that I can try and get all of the answers and how-tos in ONE spot lol.
ICS is supposedly near. I know, I know, don't hold my breath....but I kind of am. I have been having some issues with my Rezound and was hoping the update would format the phone for me and start fresh. (I am too chicken to flash any ROMs. I've looked at the tutorials and still find that I need a more dumb downed version)
Is it easily possible to tether a Kindle or Nook to the Rezound?
Is anyone willing to post a true step by step tutorial for s?
And since I'm asking questions....does anyone recommend either the Kindle or the Nook?
I wanted a cheap tablet to surf the internet, read books, and play games on. One day I'll splurge for the Nexus or an iPad but for now, I have a 200$ cutoff.
Thanks in advance for the help

Umm, the nexus comes in at $199, same as the other two.

Get the Nexus 7; really, it's not even close.

I had a Kindle, I returned it for the Nexus 7. I haven't looked back. Nexus 7 beats the Kindle hands down.

If you want to use your Rezound as a WiFi hotspot so you can use a tablet with it, you have two choices.... Stay stock and pay Verizon for mobile hotspot feature OR, root your Rezound and use the WiFi tether app from play store. My first Rezound was rooted and I used that app and it worked terrific!
You can use pdaNet app and tether using Bluetooth, but I have not heard if it works well or not....

I'd root my phone or switch to different phone before giving up my unlimited data!
I downloaded FoxFi to my wife's Fascinate today and it works fine, non rooted.

You can use Wi-Fi Tether from the Market. Change the Device profile to Samsung galaxy nexus LTE, change setup method to NEDT, set a passphrase, check WiFi driver reload and routing fix. Tether away... I used it on my tablet today and it was faster than my home WiFi.

Are you rooted? Does the app start up but your computer can't find it? If so, go to WiFi tether in your app drawer and clear cache. Reboot your phone. Make sure WiFi is not running. Try it again. I tried a couple times before it worked.

No, not rooted. When I was rooted on my first Rezound, this app worked right out of the box.
Unless I missed something, I thought we were referring to WiFi tether for non rooted Rezounds.

FWIW, I wasn't rooted last night when I tried every app and suggestion I found. Nothing worked. I finally took a deep breath and crossed my fingers and toes and rooted this morning. Something within HTC phones seems to block tethering unless you're rooted. At least that's what I think I know.

Exactly, which is why I rooted my first Rezound.
I was hoping maybe ICS had helped, guess not. :-(

You can activate and deactivate the Hot Spot feature as you need it and you only pay for the days you use it. So if you activate it 5 times here and there during the month, your bill shows the full $30.00 charge, but also shows a credit for the number of days you did not use the feature. You just have to remember to deactivate it when you're not using it. By activate, I'm referring to either calling Verizon to turn the feature on and off, or going online and doing it on their website. A Verizon rep was kind enough to explain this to me when I called to activate it after my home WiFi went out. He said you can activate and deactivate it as many times as you want. It worked for me. I only used it one day and that's all I paid for.
