I thought we were getting an update to make the Rezound a world phone by the end of summer... Did I miss the official Verizon update or is big red dragging their feet as usual?

On a similar note, if you are rooted, there's a version of the Global RUU with everything but the updated firmware stripped out so no full wipe is necessary.

The update doesn't require rooting, but it does require a factory wipe of the phone. If you're interested you can read up on it
[Exclusive Download] Full RUU Build 4.03.605.2 For The HTC Rezound

For some of us we have tried this several times and have not been successful. I have downloaded the file from several different sites and can get into boot, but no matter what file I try to load, it starts to load then says PH98IMG, no image, no Image, etc. Yes, I've tried several times to factory wipe, but still no success.

The file must be named exactly PH98IMG.zip on the microSD card, /sdcard/ext_sd in the device itself or the unnamed volume on the PC, be aware that Windows will often hide the extension of known file types, so it is easy to accidentally have the file named PM98IMG.zip.zip.

Use some thing like ES File Manager to navigate to /sdcard/ext_sd and make sure the file is there and the name is correct in the phone to verify.

I think you are referring to the .1 OTA update, avoid this if at all possible, it is very buggy and many users have reported significant battery drain issues.

Steps I tried:
•Renamed to PH98IMG.zip
•Placed on ext_sd
•Powered down device
•Rebooted into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + Power
Screen:
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
trys to load, but as I said says checking, then No image several times.

Thanks acejavelin, I used Astro file manager and it looks like the file was in the wrong location. I moved it and it seems to be working now, so I'll post later once it updates.

Possible bad download? Had that problem when flashing an RUU several months ago...it just wouldn't progress just like yours...redownloaded and tried again and it went through.

I was referring to this one:

[KERNEL] Rezound Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel (VIDEO FIXED) - xda-developers

The firmware only is labeled "Firmware" underneath the kernel in the first post. This is the method I used. I've had no problems with it and battery life has not been affected.
Ahhh... OK, I see what you mean now. I shy away from recommending anything non-stock or at least non-official except basic rooting in most of the forums, for the average user it is not usually an option they are willing to go with.

I am considering flashing the stock RUU. Aside or wiping my phone, what other risks exist by doing this? Will I be off the OTA track?

By "stock" RUU, are you referring to the 3.14.605.12 version that was pushed OTA? My question would be if this is what you have now, what are you hoping to accomplish, or are on a custom or other "non-stock" ROM currently?

To answer your questions... Assuming you are bone stock, there is little risk of any issues other than a wipe of data (which WILL happen), but there is always a chance when you are erasing/writing to non-volatile memory of a problem. The OTA track question would depend on which version you installed, if you installed the exact same version as the OTA you would be good to go for future updates, if you installed a semi-official leak , then all bets are off.

I am on 3.14.605.12 right now. No root or mod of any kind. Thinking about going to 4.03.605.2

Well, since I am not going to give into the DNA for now, I think I am going to attempt to flash the global RUU this Thanksgiving weekend. I already have the file on my SD card (happily I still have a phone WITH an SD card) and I should be ready to go. I have bookmarked Mr. Smith's instructions. I had all those failed attempts with ICS, but I am thinking the file was not in the right place. I believe I currently have it named and in the correct spot.

Good luck SkaterGirl - let us know how it goes and whar noticeable improvements/detractors there are.
I followed your attempts at ICS, and decided to flash shortly after - just days before the ota; just my luck :(
