Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
You did not miss anything official but it is out there if you are into rooting and flashing.

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
On a similar note, if you are rooted, there's a version of the Global RUU with everything but the updated firmware stripped out so no full wipe is necessary.

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
For some of us we have tried this several times and have not been successful. I have downloaded the file from several different sites and can get into boot, but no matter what file I try to load, it starts to load then says PH98IMG, no image, no Image, etc. Yes, I've tried several times to factory wipe, but still no success.

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
The file must be named exactly PH98IMG.zip on the microSD card, /sdcard/ext_sd in the device itself or the unnamed volume on the PC, be aware that Windows will often hide the extension of known file types, so it is easy to accidentally have the file named PM98IMG.zip.zip.
Use some thing like ES File Manager to navigate to /sdcard/ext_sd and make sure the file is there and the name is correct in the phone to verify.

I think you are referring to the .1 OTA update, avoid this if at all possible, it is very buggy and many users have reported significant battery drain issues.Last edited by acejavelin; 10-25-2012 at 05:40 PM. Reason: Fix filename error

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
By "stock" RUU, are you referring to the 3.14.605.12 version that was pushed OTA? My question would be if this is what you have now, what are you hoping to accomplish, or are on a custom or other "non-stock" ROM currently?
To answer your questions... Assuming you are bone stock, there is little risk of any issues other than a wipe of data (which WILL happen), but there is always a chance when you are erasing/writing to non-volatile memory of a problem. The OTA track question would depend on which version you installed, if you installed the exact same version as the OTA you would be good to go for future updates, if you installed a semi-official leak , then all bets are off.Current Android Phones: HTC Rezound x2 (Stock ICS 4.5.605.14 Official OTA update, for now anyway)

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
Well, since I am not going to give into the DNA for now, I think I am going to attempt to flash the global RUU this Thanksgiving weekend. I already have the file on my SD card (happily I still have a phone WITH an SD card) and I should be ready to go. I have bookmarked Mr. Smith's instructions. I had all those failed attempts with ICS, but I am thinking the file was not in the right place. I believe I currently have it named and in the correct spot.

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
Just make sure that the file is in the Root directory of ext_sd and that it is named ph98img.zip (member to check for .zip.zip)

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
I have been running it since about a week after release... there are several fixes:
In reality though, there are very few things I have noticed, here are a few... slightly improved battery life when in an area of excellent signal, with worse battery life when in rural areas with poor signal, Manually toggling WiFi or Mobile Data on/off causes occasional reboots or lockups, I have had one issue of the network "bootloop" where I had to pull the SIM to boot and manually toggle the Mobile Data mode to [something other than CDMA/LTE] then back to CDMA/LTE then reboot and replace SIM (never had this before). On the plus side, I have never seen another instance of data stall since going to it.
So in reality unless you are going overseas (or wish to experiment with AT&T/other SIMs), use Skype, or have lockup/data stall issues, there probably isn't much advantage to it at all, and on the downside unless Verizon/HTC happen to release this as an OTA ROM (unlikely), you will not get further OTA updates since it is not an official Verizon-supported ROM.Current Android Phones: HTC Rezound x2 (Stock ICS 4.5.605.14 Official OTA update, for now anyway)

Re: Did I miss the big gsm update?
Acejavelin, this "data stall" you refer to - is it something like updating apps from the app store, and the download stalls even though all indications are that network connectivity is fine? I have that issue regularly, and the fix seems to be to stop the download and re-attempt the update...
Except for battery life, it is my only real Rezound complaint. (like many others, I have 3 standard batteries, an external battery charger, and regular chargers stashed in all of my regular haunts...)
