The DNA definitely interests me. I'm so happy with my REZOUND right now, no rush to find anything else. Just think...the rezound didn't get the props it deserved....its one of the top phones out there. A little time will tell on the DNA.

Yeah but that is only the screen that will be unbreakable/bendy.

Imagine this though, I said jokingly somewhere about a 4.5 inch screen that folds out to a 5.5. Now imagine a 5 inch screen that could fold out to a tablet.....

We respect each other. We do need our phones to work. Mine is a phone first. I talk a lot. I like the convenience of a smartphone. And i use my tablet more than my laptop

Hi.. I don't think this is the right spot for my question but I don't know where to go. I just bought 2 rezounds for my kids from ebay for Xmas. I have the Gs3 and love it so don't know much about any others. I researched phones and really liked the rezound but didn't find a lot of information on it. I hope I made the right choice. I'm confused tho because one came updated with Ics, the other is still 2.?? (I forgot what).. I am hoping it just needs a software update.. But I don't have the sim cards yet.... Any thoughts?

Welcome. This is the best community here on ac, some of us do not even have the phone anymore and still hang out.

Good choice in phones for the kids. And yes, all you need is a software update on the other one. Wait until you get the sim card and then got to settings--> about phone and then check for update and it should do it right away. Ask anything you want in here, skatergirl can even give the phone swimming lessons if you ask nice

Thanks.. That is a relief. I thought maybe one had been rooted and had Ics or something. I'm also glad to know I made the right choice on the phone. I liked the look and the feel of it and it seemed like a high end device. I'm surprised it was hard to find information and reviews on it. I appreciate the welcome, jumping into a forum often feels like being the new kid in school. Never quite sure where u fit in.

The rez is a pretty high end device that got totally ignored all the way around. Verizon was a pretty big butthead in all of it. The details are too long and you really do not want to hear about it.

You made a good choice. ICS was out awhile ago, so you are ok there. Do you have wifi? I have some ideas that could help you get prepared for things later on...such as making sure you are totally stock on both phones, not rooted and totally updated before Christmas...

Lol.. Your right I probably don't want to hear the gory details. Wading thru a lot of Verizon crap as it is waiting for JB on my Slll.. Yes I have wifi so that would be awesome. I don't have the sim cards yet. I'll take all the ideas and help you want to throw out there.

check back in the afternoon tomorrow I will have something written up for you. Basically here is what I am thinking.

Turn on the phones, and bypass the activation (I have to look up how to do this but it is easy)
sign into wifi on your network
go to the play store and download root checker, install
check to make sure the phone is not rooted
go to settings--> about phone and check the version number, baseband and kernel are all stock (I have to check which ones are current)
go to settings--->about phone and check for software updates if they are out of date and do the updates if necessary
After everything is updated and works, do a factory reset

If things are not as they should be, such as you are rooted or not running stock, it is easy enough to get you there.

Looks like you've already got some great answers to your questions because Piizza is endlessly helpful, despite not even having a Rezound anymore. Good choice on the Rezounds, hopefully your kids enjoy them. I mainly just wanted to say welcome, and don't feel stupid for asking questions around here. This little corner of the forum is very friendly, helpful, and good at making you feel "at home. So, welcome!

I am not gonna know what to do with myself if the rez ever hits "legacy device" status or gets updated to JB. I can only troll the iNexus users so much....I was hoping to get another rez and give it to my son so I would have an excuse for the wife to A) buy it and B) spend so much time around here.

I keep telling her I can only look at porn for so long...

Lmao... Thanks for the warm welcome. I will look for your instructions tomorrow. I know one of the phones is updated..but that's all I know..lol. What is an inexus? I had the nexus before the slll and after four of them I got tired of the issues I was having with them and asked Verizon to replace it with the slll. Haven't had a single problem with it. Of course as soon as I switched the nexus updated to JB. Lol

I call them iNexus anymore because some of the people that buy them, not all mind you, remind me of Apple iPhone users (there is nothing better!! Pure Google!!! Problem with your phone!?!? GET A NEXUS!!)

with the Nexus 4 it seems to have reached an all time high...

i know you said the one is updated, but I want to make sure it is stock so that you will not run into issues down the road for Updates and the like...

Yea especially since I bought them off ebay... Not quite sure what I'm getting. I'm nervous about running into problems with them so this sure helps ease my mind.

nah, I am up like this a lot.

My wife works third shift for the next few months and I hate sleeping without her AND I do not need a ton of sleep AND I am putting a custom ROM on my phone so those three things have me up late tonight. Most nights it is just the first two....

Yeah I hate mornings as well. Especially with how cold it is getting here in Harrisburg, PA. I walk out for my morning smoke and I want to punch a kitten. Oh well lets get to the good stuff.

First thing that we need to do is make sure the batteries are charged up. Hopefully it will not be necessary to use them all that much, but if we have to do some flashing we will want a full charge.

So now we get to turn the puppies on. I am not even sure if you will hit the activation screen, you might just have one that says insert sim or whatever. No matter which screen you get, hitting the home button should just take you right to the lock screen. I am assuming that the default language is going to be English, and we are not going to be spending any more time than we need to setting things up so we can skip all the usual garbage.

Unlock the phone and go into settings-->wifi. Turn it on and enter the network password if you have one. make sure that it connects. Hit the google play store and download root checker. It is free so no worries there. Run the root checker. If it comes up that your phone is not rooted, then don't worry about it, we are good on this part. If it is rooted we will deal with that in a bit

Moving on. Lets go to about phone and check the build number. It should be 3.14.605.12. The baseband number should be 1.22.10.0421r, 1.22.10.0424r. The kernel should start out 3.0.16-gd0049f1 htc-kernel@u18000-build-144#1 smp preempt. That is the most current ICS stock build. If that checks out then lets just stop there and do a factory reset and turn it off. We are good there.

Now lets move the the problem child (the one a version behind). Start out the same and run the root checker. I know that this may seem redundant, but I want to save us hassles or be ready for problems.

If we are not rooted on this one. lets just run the updater and see what happens. If the updater goes through, verify the numbers above and do a factory reset and we are done.
If the update does not happen lets check the numbers and see where we stand. The build number should be 2.01.605.11. If that is where we are then good. if not stop here and let me know.

since we are on a stock GB and want to get to stock ICS, we are going to do it the easiest way we can this is going to take up to half an hour, and it is very important that you have the phone securely connected and that it will stay that way. I am not trying to give you a scare, but the only phone that I have seen made a paperweight was one in which the cord came out while flashing. Made sure you have it plugged in tight and no one is going to kick it off the table.

got it?
you sure?
ok lets do this thing.

download this file: Shipped ROMs

connect your phone and make sure the computer recognizes it. If it does not, then you need to disconnect, download the drivers (HTC Rezound). When you install those, all you need are the drivers so you can skip the other stuff (the sync stuff).

OK now that it is installed, reconnect the phone. Double click the first file that you downloaded and let it do its thing. it will take awhile, it more than likely reboot a few times dont worry and don't pull the plug. It will more often than not throw up "installation failed" if there is something wrong.

Once it does its thing successfully check the numbers to make sure they match with the very first set (the ICS ones) and do another reset....

Have a beer we are done. If it fails anywhere along these lines, I will on until at least 1AM EST and let me know what went wrong.
