Vzw to kill grandfathered unlmtd data plans with 4g upgrades

I had a friend tell me about this happening. I am 3G where I live, 4 g isn't available. I guess I won't be upgrading next yr. I prefer to keep the unlimited data on my phone. I do though have the tiered on my laptop and as I said not in 4g area yet. I upgraded that so that I could use it on more than one device since I have a tablet too. But being told am going to lose the unlimited data on my phone is very irritating to me. They will have to notify me of this. I won't UPGRADE. I actually am very happy with my Thunderbolt. It has been a great phone and have had no issues with it. I don't upgrade, they can't make me change.

Thank you Big Red for making me feel better about eventually rooting and using as much 4g bandwith as I can.

This really gives me no reason to stay with VZW, I can port my # to att or sprint, or TMo and get better phones, and once LTE from those three hits around me I will have similar coverage..

It's annoying, but I just looked and I average about 700MB per month, so I should be fine. In fact, just noticed that the wife only averages about 50MB per month, so perhaps we might be able find a joint plan to save a little.

They forced me into this plan with no choice and now they will force me out (And I still have no 4G coverage). If you have a 4G phone now will it apply? The article mentions 3G to 4G?

From how I read it this only applies to users who are currently on a 3G plan. So if you alredy have a 4Gplan or 4G device regardless if 4G is in your area you still have it and should be the exception. It doesn't say that someone who already has it and renews contract to get different phone will loose it. Only states individual upgrading from 3G to 4G will have to get a tiered - Shared plan

It sucks for me since i average about 10 GB a month but i dont tether ot anything i just use netflix and YouTube a lot but now I'm going to have to cut on my usage if Noth i will pay overages. I don't seen that fair since out phones have all this apps that we can use but our carriers want to limit how much we use our apps. This is just outrageous, I'm so pissed off.

I was wondering the same thing, I an already grandfathered into 4G-do will I stay unlimited? It says nothing about customers who are already on unlimited 4G, only 3G to 4G upgrades?

I don't have 4g in my area. O use 3g on my thunderbolt. Phoenix has 4g but not Cave Creek. This isn't fair to those of us who have the unlimited. And if we decide not to upgrade? And that I am OK with....

The quote "everyone will be on data share" makes me believe that anyone signing/renewing a contract will not have unlimited 4g anymore. The only way to keep your unlimited plan is to keep your thunderbolt or buy phones off contract from craigslist or whatnot.

If you're on a shared plan, what's stopping you from having the other person use your upgrade on their line and then giving you the phone so you didn't sign a new contract and keep the unlimited 4g? That seems too easy, could someone clarify? If there aren't any loopholes around this then bye bye Verizon on March 17, 2013.

TB IS 4G. I Currently have unlimited databon my LTE/4G device. If I decide to replace it with another VZ 4G Device it will not be an upgrade. Article states new rates for those upgrading. Shouldn't that mean that I keep my current unlimited data?

I'll be keeping my unlimited plan until they pry it from my cold, dead fingers. I'll just be buying my next phone off contract (full retail) and keeping my current plan. If the shared tiers are reasonable we'll see what happens, but right now I find myself using at least 4GB a month and there's no way I'm paying $15/GB of data if I can avoid it.

I will have to seriously re-evaluate when my contract comes up in June 2013. I was hoping to see a 4G LTE Casio Rugged handset, and then take that as my upgrade. However, if something like that is available next year, I'll probably do the full-price/off-contract route. I almost always held my old standard handsets past contract, the exception being my first StarTAC when it started acting up.

So when does this take affect? Both of my daughters have a upgrade coming in Sept. They will be going from 3G to 4G. We a the unlimited now and would like to keep it.

This is a dumb question, but if I buy a phone off Ebay or whereever, how does everything get transfered to the new phone? Does Verizon do it or ???

Thank goodness I swapped out my gfs dinc2 for a used thunderbolt last month. I figured they'd do this, which is why I decided to. My best advice is if you currently have a 3g device and unlimited, try and find a used 4g phone for cheap and swap out your 3g device quick, just make sure the used phone works well enough to make it to your upgrade time. Or just buy a new one if your rich.
