So needless to say I am furious. My screen on my thunderbolt is shattered!!!

How you ask? Well I was bending over to pick up a case of water. I phone fell out of pocket which is maybe 2 feet cause I was bent over (lifting with my legs of course.) I felt it slip tried to catch it and missed......

Keep in my I dropped my DX from much higher spots, on gravel and tarvia, lets just I kicked the DX's A$$. The screen on that thing didnt have a scratch. So I expect to pick up my thunderbolt without a mark.

Not the case, it was shattered all over. Also half of the screen is blank.

I am half tempted to return this thing to avoid this in the future which is a shame. My extended battery is getting me 22+ hours and I love it but cannot deal with worry if I sneeze wrong my screen will break.

Anyone else break their screen yet?

Verizon isn't going to let you return a phone with a busted screen.

No two falls are the same. Sometimes, they will break from a short fall and sometimes they will survive a more significant fall. It all depends on how and where it hits.

Ain't that the truth. I had a Storm 2. I dropped it like a hundred times with no issues. And then one day I pulled it off my desk at work by the power cord and picked it up thinking I'll just dust it off again. Just to find that there was a crack from one side of the screen to the other about 2" from the top. A case of bad luck / good fortune. Happened in Jan. and made me find out about the Thunderbolt. So I limped my S2 till I could pick this amazing phone up.

Though I may go get the insurance now that I keep seeing these horror stories.

Precisely why I'm buying insurance from squaretrade.
The down side is it does not cover theft or loss.
But spills, immersion, cracked screens etc. is all covered and for a better rate than VZW.

My main form of insurance is keeping my X :) If anything should happen to the Bolt, the X will be back in service.

A co-worker hit my Thunderbolt out of my hand, Thursday night. Thursday the 17th. I had the phone for 14 hours, before the screen shattered.
I think I win for "first casualty" :'(

My replacement doesnt come until Tuesday. Should I try and return my phone to Verizon and capitalize on Asurion. If I send them back another broken phone?

Im really ticked at how weak this glass is, must not be gorilla glass.

Good luck with that - Unless your verizon rep smashed it in front of you are facing an uphill battle. Phones get dropped - sometimes they survive sometimes they do not. I don't see how this has anything to do with the TB -- it's pure user error. Do some research - Gorrilla is a "BRAND" - even the Ipad 2 does not have the "Brand" but it and the TB have something that is from my limited research the same.

I think you win! Did you cry?

I was too tired to cry\react... I thought it was a bad dream, until I woke up the next morning.
I didn't buy the insurance at first, but I was able to buy it after-the-fact. The only thing is, I have to wait 30 days (since I bought the insurance AFTER the phone) to make my claim. Thankfully the phone still works (it's just awkward\weird because of the cracked screen - which is slowly getting worse), and also the girl that knocked it out of my hand has agreed to pay the $100 deductible.

Correct

and I would highly discourage any form of insurance fraud. It is illegal, and ends up raising rates for the rest of us.

This is why I pay for the insurance. To cover the things not covered by the factory warranty. How could it be considered fraud??

The OP must have changed the post, because I replied to something that isn't there anymore . I changed my reply accordingly.

Of course an insurance claim due to dropping the phone isn't fraud. I was talking about something else.
