Plantronics bluetooth headset

I just purchased a plantronics bluetooth headset and can't figure out why whenever I get or make a call the volume is all the way down. Would this be a setting in the phone or the headset? It's a little annoying having to mess with the volume each time I make or receive a call....thanks for your help!!

my moto headsets control my phone vol. but if I membr back to my Razr days I had a plantronics and the vols were seperate. There maybe vol +- buttons on the side
