I still really like the tbolt.
Vigor, if the specs are as rumored, will be awesome. However, would bet money it won't be out any time in September. No chance

Doesn't bother me. Phone won't be anything special until Ice Cream Sandwhich comes out. And by that time, it'll be close to february when my upgrade is. And by that time, a better HTC phone will be coming.

Life cycles for phones are increasingly short. The Thunderbolt certainly had a feeling of being rushed, which is why there were so many updates to it, but it shouldn't be considered a failure. I think Verizon and HTC made certain compromises to specs in order to get the first LTE phone to market as quick as they could, and as a result introduced a phone that wasn't as top of the line as it could be, but the Thunderbolt accomplished the goal that it was designed for. Now it's a matter of keeping your top tier devices fresh and competitive with what other people are bringing to the market.

I have a discounted upgrade available to me right now and still can't see what the Vigor would do for me that the ThunderBolt would not. I don't need simple specs. I need added functionality. Plus, I'm sure it will be a while. Quite a while

Not rushed? Haha... you gotta be kiddin'. All new smartphones are rushed. It's rush or die in this market.

After sitting on an S1 for years waiting for the S3 to come out (eventually gave up), I'm always happy to see companies improving their phones quickly. I would be very interested if VZW came out with a promotion for full 2 year upgrade process for current TB users in the middle of their contract.

Look at what's happening to Motorola and the Bionic ... and they only announced a delay for revisions without ever having to announce officially changed release dates. They're getting killed over customer assumptions.

The shelf life of any Android phone these days seems to be about 6 months. Look at the LG Revolution; it just came out what, two months ago? I see it's scheduled to be replaced with the Rev 2 in October. So it's life is even shorter than the T-Bolt.

Whatever though, I don't see anything coming that is that tempting...yet...

I do like my Thunderbolt, but the specs of the Vigor are just mind-blowing. Because of that, I'm not too sure we'll actually see that device as soon as December. The Galaxy S2 is my next phone of choice.

    +1

For me it's all about the 4G network and the TB does that in spades.

I know that roadmap leaked, but release dates can change pretty easily. I do, of course, hope its out sooner rather than later, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see it get delayed.

With all the drama with the bionic I can understand what you mean. Been waiting on it for months

There is one reason that I would not be hasty to jump to a new LTE phone at first chance, and its the same reason we have had the majority of issues with the Thunderbolt: eHRPD.

No new LTE devices that I have seen can do simultaneous Voice+Data over 3G. Only 4G, which means I will stick with the Thunderbolt until I never leave 4G.

I need the 3G with simultaneous voice. With LTE roll moving slowly in Kentucky compared to Ohio, I won't be jumping anytime soon.

Dual-core sounds great, but going back to early days of multiple CPU PC's and eventual dual-core CPUs (took years) the software just wasn't there to take advantage of the hardware..... even now there its hard to find software that will use 6 cores.... most will do 2 and some 4.... I expect similar in mobile software. Most apps are single threaded, so dual core is wasted. I believe that's why Tegra2 (dual stock ARM Cortex A9s )isn't faster than MSM8655 (single tweaked ARM Cortex A8) in Thunderbolt. Until OS and software both support dual core the real world results won't live up to marketing hype.
LG EnV => BB Storm => BB Bold 9650 => HTC Thunderbolt
    all with extended batteries......

Couldn't agree more. Add to that the substantial amount of system memory reserved solely to support the second processor.

BTW eHRPD hasnothing to do with SVDO. Indeed, an Tbolt will do simultaneous voice and data over EVDO. The reason is that the tbolt, unlike other LTE devices, The tbolt has a separate radio for 1X (which carries voice) and another for 3G/4G. See . eHRPD allows the tbolt to maintain its IP address during 4G/3G handoffs, among other things.

If you change the TBolt to "CDMA RevA" will it still do Voice/Data simultaneously?
