Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
I can't find a single one so far and have been on the phone the entire day. This is about the best Android software I've seen on any device so far. Had a lot of device just in the past 2 months.
So here it is have at it lets find the bugs - 08-17-2011, 08:14 PM #2
Seems like some of the hardware drivers aren't up to snuff or are missing. Video files that played fine through the default player before will not play at all with hardware decoding. They play fine with software decoding through Rockplayer or Moboplayer so this is only a minor annoyance.
Seems like GPS is much improved though and navigating the UI seems much smoother.

I haven't been able to find the clock feature in the main settings so that I can set an alarm. I've been forced to add a clock widget to one of my home screens and click that. Before this update, I was able to pull up the main menu and select clock. Minor thing, but odd miss on their end.

Re: Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
I use the stock Sense flip clock on the home screen and press the numbers to open the clock features and set alarms. Is that what you made reference to? I'm still on the fence with whether to dive in to this leak.
Back in the BB days leaks were easy and you could bounce from one to the next and not worry about going back if there was a bad one. This stuff isn't quite as easy.No matter how hard you push the envelope, it will always be stationery... - 08-17-2011, 08:36 PM #5

Yes, that's what I have to do now. No big deal, but it's different. Also, I do like that the status bar up top has a quick link to turn on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Network, etc. I don't use the widgets on the home screen anymore since its so easy.

Email notifications work fine for me as do wifi and I'm in the middle of streaming a movie on Netflix on 3G only.

The only thing I have noticed is sometimes transitioning from 3g to 4g isn't always smooth. But the 4g in the surrounding areas of Knoxville isn't that great. Wifi, streaming, and notifications seem to be good.

Re: Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
Only bug (if you can call it that) is that I notice ghost images of icons in the notification bar. For example, if I switch on WiFi and switch is back off, I'll see the 4G LTE logo with a faint greyed out WiFi icon behind it.
I'll have to test further, but this may be a bug in the Sense skin I am using.Former Verizon Wireless Technical Consultant - 08-17-2011, 11:29 PM

Re: Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
Oh and somebody said MP4s weren't playing? Im watching mp4s in the native video player. So not sure what the deal is
- 08-18-2011, 05:18 AM #18
Any mp4s I downloaded (youtube mostly) play fine in the default app, but any files I converted using Handbrake require a software decoder now when they did not before. Those files main function is really to be played through my Roku, but it was nice that they workrd in the default app on the phone to. It's not a huge deal, just means I can't push them through DLNA now.

Re: Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
I noticed that my sync icon kept popping up and the battery usage on wifi kept going up. After I did a little digging I found out that the Exchange calendar was trying to sync constantly if my work email was set to push. Right now I'm not syncing the calendar at all because it was killing my battery.
I also noticed that the sync icon stays on by the Google calendar setting in the accounts and sync settings for my Google account as well, but it's not rotating so does not seem to actually be doing the same thing as the exchange calendar. May try removing the HTC Calendar widget from the home screen and see if that makes any difference.

Re: Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
I use Active Sync for my Gmail mail account. This exact same Active Sync bug was/is also an issue with Froyo (at least on the TBolt). The first thing I did when I noticed it was to Un-check the Active Sync Calendar sync and Check only the Google Calendar sync. Since then I've had no issues. Active Sync still syncs my Contacts and Gmail just fine.
As far as the always-on icon on the Google items, it's normal and by design. Just different than Active Sync, that's all. As long as you get no errors it's syncing.

But the only advantage of this update is battery life? Seems like more problems than solutions.

Re: Anybody find any bugs in the new Gingerbread RUU yet?
Not really... many of us are really digging to find bugs to warn future adopters. Not all of the things in this thread are necessarily bugs with the leaked GB update, however I would say its safer to assume the worst.
I have found only extremely minor bugs, that at worst are aesthetic. That is, of course, only my experience.
Benefits to GB include streaming video chat with GTalk and Skype (I have done both), a new app drawer, and Sense 2.1. Sense 2.1 is the version I believe required for HTCSense.com support.Last edited by Mortiel; 08-18-2011 at 03:20 PM.

I'm not so pretty that I need people looking at me while I talk to them. I understand skype seems to be the holy grail to many. I just don't get it. The rest is just fluff that aren't worth problems pushing my corporate calender. If gb made my tb faster and LESS buggy I might be more enthusiastic. Even addition of minor inconveniences is a step in the wrong direction.
I guess the only thing that would get me jumping for joy is 100% bugless unlocked vanilla droid with lte (without rooting)
