Re: Update for thunderbolt
I got one too. I had already updated to the latest update that came out a few days ago but I got a notice on my screen about a new update with the same version number today. My phone didn't reboot, this time, though. I didn't notice if anything actually updated.

Re: Update for thunderbolt
What is the 605.9 update? My bolt says 605.5 from 11/19.

Re: Update for thunderbolt
Mine just updated too. The first thing I noticed is that 3G is finally working again. I'm supposed to now be in 4GLTE territory, but have been on 1x since it was announced. It was like 3G had disappeared. It is now picking that up. Still no LTE despite the map

Re: Update for thunderbolt
This is so Twilight Zone ( you can see how old I am). I was awake in the middle of the night, the other night, and my phone turned off, then on again. So I just now checked the update status, and there it was, 12/23 @ 3:58 am, update successful.
I still don't know what the update did, I don't have any of the problems others have, I'm not rooted, and don't use a lot of the technical features. - 12-24-2011, 02:20 PM #18[HTC Thunderbolt™ 4G/LTE!]

Re: Update for thunderbolt
I think htc stinks when it comes to battery usage or manufacturing , I mean I do like the phone a lot, I think ill have to lean though towards a Samsung or original droid the Motorolas

Re: Update for thunderbolt
I am glad the update fixed the ringtone issue. I am livid with the lack of battery life after the update. My battery is dead after two hours of no use. The phone is useless now. It happened immediately after the update. Prior to the update I would get moderately useage for 9 hours, several phone calls, texting, checking emails, facebook, etc. Now all I have to do it take if off the charger and it drains instantly.
I have two batteries and it happens to both. My husband who has the same phone but has not updated yet still has a decent battery life so I am confident it is related to the update. I am just surprised not many others on this forum have reported the same. - 12-29-2011, 08:41 PM #23
Re: Update for thunderbolt
Funny (well, not funny, but interesting) - I am experiencing the exact opposite. I have the extended battery, and up until this update (and a reload of MobileIron and TouchDown, which may have more to do with it, not sure...) I was ending the day with about 45% of battery on a good day after an overnight charge, "low battery" on a bad day.
My phone has been off the charger for almost 36 hours now, and I'm at about 30% charge.
Here's what I'd try if I were you:
1. Pull the battery AND SIM and leave them out for at least ten minutes. I had a lot of problems immediately after the update (Google Talk Video Chat was wonky and unstable over 3G, battery seemed to be draining really fast, and a few other strange issues). I don't know what it is, but pulling the SIM seems to fix things for me, and I've added it to my automatic "after OS upgrade" checklist. And it's harmless.
2. Go through your most-recently-used apps and check their data usage. Try "clear data" (warning, this nukes all saved data, but for things like Facebook all you need to do is log back in). Go through the stuff you don't use, nuke all of its data, and uninstall it.
3. Look at your battery usage chart (menu / settings / About Phone / Battery / Battery Use) - what is using the battery the most? If your answer is not "Display", then you need to seriously look at what IS using the most battery. In my case, after 36 hours, it's "Display" at 51% followed by WiFi, then Cell Standby, then Maps (I use Google Maps a lot), then Phone Idle. - 12-29-2011, 09:03 PM #24
@M2
Agree with Natehoy. Also, go through your apps and open them to see if they produce an error. It is not uncommon to have an app that needs to be uninstalled and reinstallled after an OTA. And it could be constantly re-trying in the background running your battery down. If all else fails, this is factory reset territory. I strongly believe this is a software issue.

Re: Update for thunderbolt
You are lucky. I checked my battery usage and 39% is display and 36% by a calendar. It looks like the stock calendar and I use a different business calendar. I don't understand how the calendar is using the battery. I also wish I knew to look at this before so I would at least compare.
I don't have any apps on my phone that I don't use that I have downloaded. What I do have are tons of apps I don't use that I cannot delete...stock apps.
My display times out after 30 seconds and it is not at its brightest. I don't have an animated screen either. I am not sure what else for the display that can be adjusted.
I will go through my apps like Frank suggested. I will also pull the battery and SIM tonight. Hopefully I will stumble upon the answer.
Thanks for the advice.
Marian
