Re: New updates, not ICS
Anyone else feel really uhhhh I want to use a word besides disappointed but it's hard to find one that gets the same message across in a less "I expect everything" attitude?
It's been what, 5 months since the last official OTA (Dec I think) and this is what they come up with?
I can list a handful of developers all over the net who've worked on this device that have accomplished more in a weeks time than this. It's like they have one guy to support this device and he doesn't have a clue what's happening in the Android world...
I know this is going to come off to some seriously patient people as "don't bite the hand that feeds" but you have to admit, it's been 7 months strong since ICS was released. What were they doing this whole time? The phone (Thunderbolt) was approx 6 months old at the time when ICS was being released. Is a 6 month old phone really not worth being supported? I find that appalling and if I wasn't up for an upgrade right now I'd be outraged. Either way, I won't be buying another HTC device again. Thunderbolt first and last.

Re: New updates, not ICS
It doesn't require root to flash, but yes it will wipe the device (not the SD card though). For those who may not know; RUU is a ROM Update Utility that completely overwrites the device's internal memory, whereas an OTA (Over the Air) update installs on top of the existing system changing only needed files. Subsequently, a RUU is much larger in size (this new one is approx. 448MB) and an OTA will be much smaller (ex. usually double digit MB). If anyone is interested, be sure to read the instructions on the Android Police site (under Download and Flash).

Re: New updates, not ICS
Actually, if this is an official leak, you will probably be able to install without root.
More importantly, *IF* you are rooted, you do NOT want to install this, unless you know what you're doing. There's another thread on this over in the rooting sub-forum where I also posted this warning.
Installing the RUU will leave you with an unrooted device, that may not be able to be re-rooted...and that's the best case scenario. - 04-17-2012, 04:29 PM #10
Re: New updates, not ICS
I'm not disappointed at all, in fact I'm anxious about ICS coming to the Thunderbolt as I'm afraid it could cause problems on what has become a very mature and stable device. But regardless, what other phone has ICS besides the Galaxy Nexus or S, the latter I believe just got it and many are reporting problems? Others are still waiting. Personally, as long as ICS doesn't cause problems when it comes to the Thunderbolt, it's just icing on the cake.

Me neither. I'm grateful. This must be the 7th or 8th important OTA for the Thunderbolt in just 13 months. This has got to be some kind of record for phone updates. And people complain about slow updates on the Thunderbolt??? Ha! And ICS comming too!

Re: New updates, not ICS
Looks like lots of little fixes, like the Birthday issue. I wonder if the "device stability, resets" issue will help with the Sense crashes and restarts discussed in the other thread, or if it's something else. My TB has been very stable with only a few involuntary restarts since I have had the phone.

Re: New updates, not ICS
That list is interesting to me for two specific items - the IPV6 over eHRPD issue, and the Cisco Any Connect VPN issue.
For Christmas I got the newest whizbang router from Cisco, the E4200v2. Probably once a day my Wifi connection loses Internet. Dunno why, but it just stops working. I'm connected to the router, but I have no Internet connectivity. I turn Wifi off and back on and I'm all set.
Could my issue be one of those two things? I'm testing right now, pre-update, but going into that "##778#" mode and going back to Rev A, just to see .... - 04-17-2012, 09:43 PM #16
I doubt either one of these would fix your occasional loss of Internet while still connected to your WiFi router. But, here are some things to try...
Different channel.
Different encryption.
Different protocol (slower).
Different lease length.
There's a few more tweaks that can be made in the phone's and router's settings. That's what I'd try.

I will wait for the official. I won't download leaks. Not messing with my phone.

Re: New updates, not ICS
Question: Does this happen with other connected devices, like any computers you have on wifi, or is it just your phone that seems to drop wifi?
If you don't notice the same behavior (loss of Internet when using wifi) on other devices it *may* be an issue with the phone, but the whole eHRPD and RevA settings only really apply to when using mobile data I believe...wifi shouldn't be affected by that setting.
If you notice other devices lose connection to Internet, then the most likely culprit may be interference. Since you claim to have a newer router, the risk of interference should actually be minimal, but it doesn't mean it's impossible. Many other electronic devices can interfere with wifi signal and cause connections to drop, such as cordless phones, bluetooth devices or neighboring wifi routers (apts and townhomes). Frank's advice is sound...changing the channel and frequencies being used may be way to avoid interference if it is present. - 04-17-2012, 10:42 PM #20

Pete, you're absolutely right - I'm not sure what the heck I was thinking. eHRPD isn't even involved in my wifi connection. Duh.
No, no other devices drop from this router. Galaxy Tab, Nook, laptops, iPod - nothing. Just the two Thunderbolts. Sometimes I can go a day without it, sometimes it's 3 times in one evening, but it's just the Bolts that do it.
Point of note, in case anyone thinks it's related .. my son's Win7 laptop is horribly slow over wifi with this router. Horribly slow. Can't figure it out. Wired, it smokes. Wifi, it's a dog.

Re: New updates, not ICS
If you suspect interference from neighboring wifi access points, check out an app called . You can install it on your Tab or phone, and it has a feature where it will show you a map of all the available wifi networks around you, and what channel they are broadcasting on, which can make it easier to pick a channel for your own network to reside on.

Re: New updates, not ICS
On that note; if you have a Dell PC, there is usually a program called "DW WLAN Card Utility" that has a tab called "Site Monitor" where you can see all surrounding Wi-Fi networks. I used it when setting up my home Wi-Fi to pick a channel no one else was using and periodically check it to ensure that's still the case.

Back to the thread topic
, has anyone been able to download and try the leaked RUU? I keep trying, but any site I've found hosting the file are so slow I've given up.
