Default Clear Wireless EAS Triangle in Notifications Bar

I received my first EAS notification yesterday (flash flood warning). Now I cannot get the red ! triangle in the left corner of my notification bar to clear. I deleted the message, but the triangle is still there. I have looked at running services, and done some web searches but not finding anything on point. Stock, unrooted TB.

If you reboot the phone, is it still there?

And have you tried opening the app itself to clear the notification? Just brainstorming....

Yes, a restart cleared it. It is in the messaging app, as are the alert settings.

That feature was added in the last software version (2.11.605.19). Per Verizon's Thunderbolt update page (see Benefits of Software Update pdf), "Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System."

I don't recall any way to turn that functionality off. Can anyone confirm if you can do that? I'm running the previous software (2.11.605.9) that doesn't have that feature, so can't check it out. If there is no way to turn it off, that would suck! It's my phone, let me enable or disable alerts/notifications just like I'm able to do with the weather apps I choose to use on my phone. Myself, I don't need big brother looking out for me. I can manage on my own, thank you very much!

I get these all the time. To clear, I swype the screen down. You will see the message there. Just push clear and the triangle goes away.

Took me a little time to figure out how to get rid of these alerts:
Messages>menu>settings>emergency alert. Click off all that you do not want.

Presidential alert - can not be turned off
    Extreme alert
    Severe alert
    Amber alert

Hmm. I didn't see a "clear" option, but maybe I missed it. It was actually pretty interesing. All of a sudden, my phone is making that distinctive alert noise we are so used to on radio or TV.

It's not interesting when I was getting 8 notifications in 2 hours. Extremely annoying. For 3 days we were in flood watch, and I was getting those messages sometimes 5 minutes apart. I almost threw my phone against the wall.

I called Verizon and spoke to a level 2 tech and they couldn't figure out how to disable it. I then asked at one of my car forums and they helped me to deactivatate the severe notification.

The clear button is in the upper right hand corner after swyping the screen down from the main screen. If you get a text message, swype down, and you'll see the clear button in the upper corner. It isn't there when there's no notification.

The one I received was the first since I have had the update installed. And there have been plenty of other weather alerts for my area since then, plus some Amber Alerts, so I don't know how that one got to the EAS where the others have not. Probably still working out bugs in the system.
