    Default Sense 2.0 and LauncherPro

I am afraid i already know the answer to this question but I am going to ask it anyway. I am debating on upgrading my OG DROID to either the thunderbolt or the bionic. now, i wish one was stock android but, alas, they aren't. so, I have a question. I know (well, am fairly sure) that LauncherPro can be used on a phone w/blur and still have the 4 little customizable icons on the bottom. (this is what i currently use on the OG DROID). My question is, is this possible to do on the new Sense 2.0 devices? Having those 4 little short cuts helps me keep my "home" screen uncluttered while allowing me to use the 4 things i do most often from any screen. So, i hope you don't break my heart!

HTC Sense runs as a "Home" / "Launcher" type of application on top of the Android OS. Simply download LauncherPro (or whatever other variant you like), install, hit your home key on your phone, and you'll be prompted if you want to launch HTC Sense or LauncherPro. You can also download "Home Switcher" from the market which will assist in getting back to Sense if you so desire. Easy.

The new version of Sense looks really nice. Can't wait!

Awesome news guys. Score one for the TBolt.

I thought i read somewhere a while ago that Sense wouldn't let you do that....thought it forced you to use the sense launcher.

    Oh happy day!

Not true. You can do the same with Moto's Blur as well. Again, the launcher is just essentially kind of an app.

You can't use any of the sense widgets with launcher pro I thought?

That is true Sense widgets will not work on any other launcher besides the Sense launcher. LP has some widgets that are pretty close to the Sense widget.

The question was if you could use LauncherPro at all on a HTC Sense device... which you can. Correct though, if not running Sense, the HTC Sense widgets will no longer be available.

    posting for friend but:

Well I switched over to launcherpro on my Thunderbolt. And when I click on the phone/call button to bring up contacts to search through and call the screen is blank as if I have no contacts in my phone, but I can press a random number then delete the number and all my contacts will pop up then I can go search through them to make a call.

First try to restart the phone and if that doesn't work have him clear cache and data in contacts and phone dialer. Somehow I don't think LP would be the issue unless the dialer works when you switch back over to Sense.

I can confirm switching back to sense fixes it. Switching back to lp breaks it again.
Clearing data on dialer apps didn't help. No cache to clear

That will be specific to LP, I had Go Launcher EX installed and didn't have that problem. Their forums, as ctwilliams has suggested, is exactly the place to go.

Interestingly enough, after the alternate skins that were posted, I'm quite satisfied with Sense. I was all about custom launchers before this phone, but I think I'll stay where I'm at for now. I do wish I could get rid of unused home screens though...

I love lp's doc I used it before on my OGDroid but just today I was trying to install some Sense. Widgets and found out I couldn't that really was a bummer. Good thing I was using beautiful widgets on my Droid also so I get the best of both worlds. I'm a happy man

LP probably needs an update to work with Sense 2.1.

Remember Sense is not just a launcher / skin. It reaches pretty far into Android in places, has its own (really powerful) widgets and email with full native ActiveSync and push.
