No way! The Thunderbolt will steal the Merge's Thunder!
Ehhhh, when the Merge arrives, I will compare the two.
Will the HTC Merge Announcement effect your decision to get a Thunderbolt?
With the announcement of the HTC Merge (finally!), the Thunderbolt might be less appealing to someone for example who wants a slide out keyboard. So please vote on the poll and chime in down below!

For me, it was the non-announcement of the Merge and the announcement of the Thunderbolt that effected my decision. I was really excited about the Merge, but compared to the updated features/hardware of phones that are also still to be released, the Merge is no more than a mid-range device. If the Merge came out in November as rumored, I would have bought it. Now, not so much.

Simply put... No. The Merge is a great phone in it's own rite, but specs make it a mid level phone. I bet it will be a great phone for teens, college students, and highly active texters. For my needs and means... I'll take the TBolt."In valor, there is hope."

The Slide out Keyboard is appealing to me and I was looking for one. But I'm not gonna sacrifice performance in the device just for that option. HTC needed to upgrade the processor and released it sooner.
I'm thinking we wont see a LTE device with a slide out keyboard on Verizon until Next year at CES.

I have a tmobile g2, which I believe is the same as the merge minus the senuse UI.
The g2 sucks, if merge has the same sliding z crap hing situation its is annoying. If you read the g2 forums and you hear people saying "i can deal with the loose hinge" that's BS. Everytime I pick up the phone the screen pops up, when it is in my jeans pocket I the screen is constantly flapping around.
I totally regret getting this phone, that is why i'm waiting for this damn thunderbolt to come out so I can be rid of it.
Nexus One was the best android I had to date. Worst was the Vibrant.

I'm still going with the Thunderbolt, but if the iPhone5 isn't a whole lot better spec-wise I may see if my wife will want this for her upgrade. She seems to really like the sliding or flipping full keyboard (she had an enV2, a Reality, and now a Moto Droid 1), but she also has a ZuneHD and said she could probably deal with a glass screen touch phone.
So for me no, but for her, it really depends on what comes out between now and her upgrade in January.

I work outside in the cold with gloves on and travel around the world on a regular basis. The global aspect of the Merge plus the physical keyboard make it a better choice for my purposes. Even as the tech-geek in me cringes at the thought of getting a "lower" spec'd phone. Oh yeah- no LTE in my rural area until 2013 at least.

I really want a keyboard, so I'll check it out and see. I'd also like the "global" aspect, (and since Moto is allying with Satan, D2 is out). I could do without bing and would really like a higher resolution camera, but if it releases before my patience runs out I will give Merge at least a hard look.
*edit: I am also in 4g no man's land. No LTE for me until 2012 at best.

Nope. Never really had any interest in the Merge. Not a huge fan of slideout keyboards anymore. My Droid was the last time I'll go down that path.

that really doesn't seem like it'd be that much of an issue, and there are leaked pictures of it with a verizon logo.
