I wonder if the software is smart enough to send background data over EVDO when the phone's screen is off? I mean, think about it: there's no reason for the background data to be sent using LTE, since its 'background' data. Would be a smart move to conserve battery life.

man it's too bad this battery problem has caused such a nice device a bad wrap. Hopefully there will be a software update than can help it

I fully charged my battery yesterday. Then I went through and did all my settings. You have to turn all vibrations off. That is a phone killer. Even the keyboard vibrations which is under the keyboard settings.
I had my brightness set to auto. I changed my sync settings to 1 or 2 hours and my IMAP email to 4 hours during peak times.
I went bike riding and put the phone is my holster. I streamed iheartradio for about 3 hours yesterday and didn't even make a dent in the battery. And this is on the standard battery.
After about 6 hours I was down to 70%. It jumped down after I went on Skyfire and was browsing the internet watching some videos. So I'm guessing videos take more battery on this phone.
Today I'm going to test 25% screen brightness.
The other thing I noticed even with my DINC before this phone is that WiFi doesn't affect the battery that bad if your settings are good. I stay on WiFi alot, especially at home. I have 50mbps at home through COX. And the battery life is the same if I'm on the mobile network or wifi.
I was trying this with the TB yesterday and I'm getting about the same results but it need more testing. I'll let everyone know.http://vbctv.com/pics/vbctvbanner.png

I have a silly question for all you guys and gals, does the kernel apparently being optimized for gingerbread, while running froyo, affect the efficiency of the battery and processes? Just a question. I also may be wrong...but aren't kernels first letter an indication of what version they are compatible with? Claire was EGB something, froyo FRG etc...and the bolt is running froyo with a software version Gb05544a...

Is anyone having issues with texts today? I sent 2 different people texts this morning and the number they received the text from was a very long random number (obviously not my cell number). Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Is this something going on with Verizon?

Only when the phone is plugged in to a computer/the wall will you see percentage in the Desk Clock app that launches when you press the time on the widget.
Otherwise, you need to go to Personalize -> Widgets and download/install the Battery widget for percentage.
I am using Spare Parts to monitor what exactly is eating my battery and it gives percentages as well as battery voltage. This is useful because if my battery caps out at around 4100 mV after a full charge but for some reason is currently reporting 100% at a mere 3600 mV then something went wrong with the charging process and the battery calibration might need some work. This was a key app for people using CM7 nightlies and I apply the same process here. - 03-18-2011, 09:04 AM #191
Here is my setup for now, yes I did the bump charge after a straight 6 hr charge. Plugin in charger after phone is off, charge until green, unplug charger from the wall, power phone up and plug charger back into the wall ac to charge until green again, rinse and repeat for total 10x. Pulling charger from the wall oultlet prevents wearing out the micro usb port on the phone. This process should only be needed to be done once a month.
Apps running for monitoring are as follows: system panel (no a task killer-complete system report)?also could try os monitor as well
Battery detail app+widget: battery monitor widget (complete details on battery specs, also graphs battery usuage for over 24hr period of time), battery indicator (always on battery indicator, it can into your notification tray)
Turn brightness to 20-30% as suggested Cyber and others have for max effect.
Use quick settings for toggling all controls of wireless and display in one setting (places itself in pull down tray @ your request)
Last but not least there is an app called phone info by sc@tawain that will do the code automatically to control 3G/4G bypass to turn on and off go into phone info and down @ the bottom screen and select cdma auto prl until a 4G widget is created by a dev.
My experience comes from having Evo on Sprint living a low line coverage area with not very good service. Yes I have a Thunderbolt now cause I have been a Verizon customer a few years now!Last edited by acmxenon; 03-23-2011 at 05:33 AM. Reason: typos

I turned my phone off with about 50% charge last night, turned it on this morning and it was about 30%... this worries me abit.
I'm seriously thinking about bringing it back within the 14days if the battery life becomes troublesome but then I dont know what phone to get(dx maybe?) and I'm not sure if I would have to pay a restocking fee? :/

Reply

) I don't know if Verizon promised you guys better battery life, but if they did, they lied. You need a bigger battery and a smaller processor if you want to keep the 4.3" screen. Also, some kind of rooted ROM works on a few of the phones.
