Time/Location/Weather Issue
Please forgive me---I'm an android neophyte so I'm not sure how I even begin to address this.
The time on my Thunderbolt is displaying time and weather for Libreville, Gabon in Africa. I can assure you that I am in St. Louis, Missouri. I have verified and all the location services are currently turned on. I've tried turning location services on/off, deleting and re-adding the clock/weather widget, rebooting the phone and also doing a blackberry-style battery pull all to no avail. It seems as if it sets the time correctly for a few seconds immediately after it boots up and then reverts to showing Libreville. Help! What else can I try? - 03-18-2011, 12:20 PM #2
I had the same problem. Don't use network for location, just gps.

I believe I follow what you're saying, but just to confirm, I would go to Settings > Location and then under the section titled "Location ON Settings" I would turn off VZW Location Services, and leave on Statnalone GPS Services and Google Location Services?
I ask because I've done that it doesn't seem to have had any effect. Still showing the wrong network time.
Interestingly, if I go into the Google Maps app, it seems to know exactly where I am. - 03-18-2011, 12:27 PM #4
This is odd. I'm in St. Louis as well and I'm not having any issues. The only issue I seem to have (and it's not really an issue) is when I'm at home it switches from Berkeley, to Florissant, to St. Louis. And like I said it's not really an issue as I live in between those areas so it probably just picks up different towers.

Double tap the clock. It'll open the "Desk Clock" app. If you tap the Globe at the bottom, what cities do you see?

As an aside, if your GPS is ever saying you are somewhere off the west coast of Africa it's because GPS can't find a signal so it defaults to that location since it is 0 LAT 0 LONG

I actually had a similar issue... The phone thought it was in San Francisco, CA when I was actually in New York. It also defaulted to Pacific Time. I finally corrected the problem after switching the "System select" option to "Automatic" instead of "Home Only" (found under Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile networks).
Check that option and see if it works. I've always set previous VZW phones to "Home Only" in order to prevent roaming charges. Not sure why this was a problem for my TB. - 03-18-2011, 01:51 PM

Unfortunately mine was already set to "automatic". I did just go out for lunch, and when I was outside, the phone consistently stayed in the right location. I think this issue has something to do with the GPS not being able to receive a strong enough signal indoors so it defaults to the center of the Earth as was mentioned earlier in the thread.
Anyway, thanks all for the help! - 04-15-2011, 02:39 PM #13
My clock lists my current city as Orlando, though I am not in Orlando. I added my home city but I cannot set this as the default and I cannot delete Orlando from the list of cities. Stumped.

I just called VZW about this issue as it happens to me as well on my new TBolt. At first they said it's something with HTC TBolt, then after she put me on hold for 5 minutes, she came back and said this is something with all phones with 4G, and that at some point there will be an update to fix it.
It's a load of crap I know. This timezone issue has happened to me twice now and it goes on for hours. Last night from 7PM until 8AM this morning and a few nights ago for several hours as well. I'm in Cleveland Ohio, but it thinks I'm in Santa Fe, New Mexico. - 05-02-2011, 08:26 AM #16

Some claiming to work at Verizon are saying in a couple of days (May 3rd). We won't know for sure until the update gets pushed to our devices.
