The other day I was at a major airport. I decided to be a nice guy and turned on my thunderbolt's 4G hotspot without a pw with the name: "Free 4G". Within 45 seconds 5 people were connected. Is there any problem that people can see with doing something like this? Security or other issues?

The only problem i forsee with this is if/when our data gets capped, you would be wasting a significant majority of your usage letting someone else use your data. And on 4g, it would get used very very quickly. (As i am sure whenever the "free" hotspot trial is over, you will get capped at how much data you can use thru the hotspot)

Could it be just other phones auto-connecting to a nearby open network? In that case it wouldn't be folks intentionally stealing your wifis.

Wait until the feds come after you for sharing child porn over your "Free 4G" Network.

Try and explain that somebody at the airport probably used your phone to transfer files unknown to you. I'm sure they'll believe you.

Seriously though, not a good idea to let strangers use your internet connection. You don't know what they are doing on it and you are 100% responsible.

Child Porn Rings, Identity Thieves, etc etc... Love using anonymous public wifi hotspots.

while child porn was not the first thing to come to my mind, I was thinking in the lines of file sharing

Free HS is over May 15th. $20 a month after that - don't know what the cap is.

One of the reasons I bought the TB is for the HotSpot feature for my iPad.
As it turns out I have only turned it on once in over two weeks....and I couldn't get it to work.

$20.00 gets you a 20gig cap for the Hot spot.

+1. Never share any of your internet connections (home wifi, hotspot, etc.) with anyone you don't know. While most criminals are stupid, the smart ones (and usually the worst offenders, like mentioned above) know not to use their own internet for their illegal activities. Very bad idea to supply it for them.
