4G LTE symbol showed up on my phone tonight. Had to get a speed test. Pretty impressive...

    Too bad it's gone now

45 minutes or so from Gainesville here. A rep told me that Gainesville would definitely be getting 4G very soon. I'm already covered.

I wish I could be at the O&B game tomorrow, but I'll have to settle for watching it on TV.

How about a Florida Thunderbolt Club? We can all get together, maybe at World of Beer, for a beer sometime?

Same thing happened in Tallahassee a couple weeks ago and we were told by Verizon reps that they were testing the 4g network. Still not on in the capital city.

I saw 4G for a second today around 10:30 while on campus. I wasn't able to do a speedtest or even try it out... but I saw the symbol. Lol.

It showed up here in Norwalk, CT around 10 this morning, and it is still going. I guess I shouldn't be surprised if it is gone tomorrow.

I'm a rep for Verizon in Gainesville and from what I understand there are a few test sites in Gainesville. So, it is very well possible you will hit 4G here from time to time until the rumored launch date in August.

Again all this is rumored from other reps and nothing is for sure.

In case someone didn't see it, Verizon confirmed (via Twitter) 4G for Gainesville launching Thursday!

As of around 11:00PM Tuesday night, 4G is up and running strong in Gainesville, Florida.

Speed test app on my thunderbolt is show a maximum of 19.85 Mbps down and 9.87 Mbps up in with 4 bars.

My thunderbolt hooked up to my computer through easy tether is showing a maximum download speed of 9Mbps. The mobile hotspot gives me about 14mbps max download speed. Both easily fast enough to watch netflix in HD.

On the fringe of 4G coverage near Santa Fe College where I work, I can get 4G with the switch app. (by putting it to LTE only mode) Otherwise it tends to want to go back to 3G. Even still, using easytether, I get 6Mbps download speed on my computer! On the very edge of coverage!

Anyway, I'm a new member. I've been following this thread for info ever since I found the site and thread looking for info when 4G blipped on in Gatortown!

I live like two blocks from campus (south of archer, off of 13th st) and 4G is a no-go for me. But thanks for telling me about switching to LTE-only mode. I'll have to do that tomorrow when I am on campus.

Just a note, at least for me it takes a moment (maybe 45 seconds to a minute) for my tbolt to lock on after switching to to LTE mode.

Yeah, I waited for about a minute and 1x came on; was never able to get up to 4G. Then I went on campus and got some pretty great results.

However, I noticed that 4G is very patchy in Gainesville. In Tampa, you could go 10 miles in any direction and still be locked in. In Gainesville, while walking around the UF campus I experienced 4G, 3G, and 1x switching constantly. Most of the time it was 3G, occasionally changing to 4G for a minute or so. I am definitely a bit disappointed. Since it is rather new, I hope they are able to buff up the coverage in the near future.

(And I tried to switch to LTE only mode on campus and it only stayed on 1x. I was in the library, but I thought 4G was supposed to be able to penetrate buildings better than 3G?)

^Very detailed 4g coverage map. Select "4G" data and zoom into gainesville. At my house I'm constantly at 4G. Same at the mall and anywhere on Newberry Road.

Yeah, my apartment is in an extended 4G area. When I walked out of my apartment this morning I got 4G right away. But the map claims that the whole campus is covered by 4G, but there were spots on campus that I could not get it. Like I said, it would pop-up from time to time, but it would not lock for more than a few minutes.
