No matter when this update actually rolls out, I hope this statement from the link is true: "Verizon recently extended the time for free mobile hotspots for the HTC ThunderBolt."
'Course, I know they're not doing this just to be nice. They're doing this 'cuz they still haven't figured out a pricing scheme for 4G data. Geeze!

So for us rooted guys (I just rooted to BAMF 1.5), I want to get the updates for the bug fixes mostly... what should my steps be to minimize wiping all my data? I'm new to rooting and basically just followed a youtube vid on how to do everything. Not sure what to do to change/update ROMs. Thanks

If you take the update there is a very strong chance you will lose root. The best thing is to not take the update. I think I've read that BAMF 1.6 has the latest updates in it. You may want to check it out. I believe it requires you to flash the latest radio. Which is not hard, but always read up on it first since that will kill your phone if done wrong.

Just got off the phone with a Verizon Rep
I just got off the phone with a Verizon Customer Service Rep in order to switch my DINC to a Moto Razr to avoid having to pay for a data plan I no longer use. Since I had him on the line I asked about the rumored Tbolt update. I heard him type on the computer and he said he indeed saw an update for the Tbolt that is scheduled to be released Tuesday May 2nd. I know you have no reason to believe me but I for one will be checking for an update every 5 minutes on Tuesday, while plugged into a power source of course. TWO MORE DAYS!!!

Just got the OTA here in Chicago..
It is no less than AMAZING!!!
My T-Bolt now PRINTS MONEY and transforms into a bleepin JET!!! ;^JI've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
Time to die.Thanked by: - 05-01-2011, 11:25 PM #16[HTC Thunderbolt™ 4G/LTE!]

Assuming it does 'unroot', is it like iPhone updates where it would make it harder to 'reroot' later? e.g. is there a benefit to me rooting my phone now while we are sure its possible?
(forgive the silly question, I'm new to android, but not new to the idea of rooting systems/jailbreaking, etc). - 05-02-2011, 10:45 AM #24

I have absolutely nothing installed (beyond Firefox) on the Tbolt at this point.
Eventually I'd like to put either dasBAMF or CM7 on there (once its ready and once they have reasonable wifi tethering support (e.g. without involving a terminal to enable/disable).
So are you saying just leave it until the new update comes out and then root it? I'm fine with that (as long as it doesn't paint me into a corner).
