Thumbs up 4G sighting in Grand Rapids, MI!

While working near the intersection of Kalamazoo and Burton yesterday, I noticed I was running 4G LTE! We were traveling as I noticed and once I arrived back in the downtown area I was back to 3G, BUT I was able to test one website successfully (Android Central of coarse). I'm sure it was just a tower test I happened to notice, and my Verizon rep agrees. Either way; exciting news!!!

I haven't noticed anything at Eastern and 44th, but it's good to see that this side of town is going to be covered soon!

Just announced this morning on local TV WoodTV8 that LTE is on for good in metro GR. They quoted VZW as saying the engineers completed the rollout early, and turned it on.

"But a company spokesperson said the network is now active in the Grand Rapids area, which reportedly will cover Cascade Township, East Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kentwood and Wyoming"

"The other Michigan communities expected to get Verizon's LTE network on June 16 are:
    • Flint, Flushing and Grand Blanc.
    • Lansing, Dewitt, Dimondale, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Laingsburg, Okemos and Waverly.
    • Ann Arbor, Brighton, Plymouth, Walled Lake and Ypsilanti."

I'm in Caledonia and the 4G speed is incredible. The test I ran last night showed 14.6Mb down.

I work and live in Detroit and the 4G speeds are fast as hell. I can get anywhere from 8 Mps to 20 Mps. No lie. the 8 is usually downtown Detroit.

    UPDATE:

So this 4GLTE network seems to be doing the same thing as all the rest of the coverage areas around the country. Signal keeps going to 1X. I noticed that I'll have 4G, then make a phone call, then straight to 1X. It's been in and out the last couple days.

Same here. In and out of 4G pretty consistently the last 3 days. The 4G/3G handshake (or whatever) seems to be working much better with the new update (despite the occasional reboot, which oddly has only occurred in the last few days too. ). I've only seen 1x a couple of times, the same thing that happened when I was in Detroit during the national 4G outage.

Small price to pay as an early adopter.
