Tbolt powers down automatically
This has happened to me a couple times now. My same routine, I go to the bedroom, plug my phone in and make sure the alarm is set. I wake up in the morning late and see that my phone is off. While I was asleep, the phone has shut down and did not power back on. This also happened this afternoon. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks,

Never even heard of that ... Many talk of random reboots, but I've never heard of a complete shutdown.
When you power it back on, is the battery charged? (Is it a case of a bad charger?). - 05-28-2011, 09:42 PM #3
This happens to me as well. I only notice after I turn my gps on then off. Battery is fine it powers right back up. Happened to me during the day today.

I never shut the GPS off. I do shut WiFi off when I am not at home.
I google searched this issue and few hit came up, but not on this site. Was wondering if anyone is having the same issue.
I doubt calling VZW will help any.
Now get this.. My Fiance has the same phone. About 2-3 weeks younger than mine has not experienced this, but does experience random reboots. More pre-update and few times since the update. She had a reboot today, but at a different time than my shut off.
Love this phone, but I get worried when I lay down at night.

my phone has done this a couple of times. good thing i use a back up alarm clock. i'm trying to figure out what causes it. i just dont put it on desk clock anymore because it usually happens when i leave it on desk clock..

Mine did this a few times after I first got it but hasn't since the update... however the update now causes the phone to reboot which is annoying but at least not as bad as the complete shutdowns that happened before. All three times it just shutdown were at random times so I have no clue why it happened.

i dont have the reboot issue, but I do have the phone shutting down on its own about once a day. It happens at all different situations. I personally think it is signal related and it only started happening after the ota update. It never happens when im on wifi.

I've had this happen to me at least three times. I cannot trust this phone as an alarm clock.

happened to me once. if it happens frequently, call vzw for a replacement

I've had this happen 2-3 times in the couple months I've had the phone. I would assume its pretty much the same problem as the reboot, just turns off instead sometimes. Like others have said, if its really frequent, I would get a replacement.

Mine started rebooting the first day of the OTA and has done so only a handful of times, it has also randomly shutdown completely 2 times. I, too depend on the device for an alarm clock, however I have now started requesting a wake up call just in case when I'm on the road. Wish it would wake up when the alarm is set, like my blackberry did!

Mine also powers itself down. Sometimes while in the holster and sometimes while just sitting on the counter. It does it about once a day. I have the software update. I contacted HTC and they said do a soft reset (battery pull) and if that does not fix it, do a hard reset. I did both and now in addition to the power downs, it resets itself often.
I called Verizon twice Friday 5/27. The first time, they had me do a hard reset by holding volume down while powering up. This tech denied that this was a known issue. He told me to try this and if it didn’t work, call back. Ten minutes later, it reset itself while just sitting in my desk. I called Verizon back and the second tech said that this was a known issue and that he participes in daily teleconferences with HTC trying to figure this out. He is sending me another reconditioned phone. I plan to try it for 48 hours or so before I send mine back. If it has dead pixels or won’t hold 3G like my original T’bolt, I’ll not keep it. They do not know what is causing this so there is no immediate software update in the pipeline. All they can do for now is to replace the phones. He told me that if the phone arrives with the old software to not update it.Thanked by: - 05-29-2011, 04:43 PM

I just wonder if I should call Verizon and see about getting another phone? I simply hate going through with all that trouble. Guess I will if I have to. As someone else said, I cannot trust this phone as a standalone alarm clock.

My wife experienced this her old Thunderbolt, and it got worse after the update. Her replacement has never done either.
I have never experienced the full shutdowns, but reboots were a problem. I know have a new phone running the old software, and haven't experienced either. - 05-30-2011, 01:43 AM #17
This started happening to me after I did a factory data reset in response to the rebot issue. Now it does both.

Well i must have jinxed myself... last night my phone did a complete shutdown on it's own again. This phone is becoming more and more unreliable.... You just never know if it's going to restart on you right in the middle of something important or simply be off when you pull it out of your pocket and find you've missed some important calls or texts.

This started happening to me last Friday. It did it once, then twice Saturday, once Sunday and once Monday.
Two of them were overnight, the others were random. Had a low battery the first time, but it wasn't dead (I think it was 7% on reboot). The other times it was pretty much full. - 05-31-2011, 06:17 AM #21

I had this happen one time after about a week of having the phone, I got mine a week after they were released. It shutdown overnight and I woke up late. Although I get the random reboots, it has not completely shut down since.
However the one instance of shutting down has caused me to find a great use for my old trusty Storm 2. It is a dynamite alarm clock now."Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt Hoooooooo!" - Lion-O - 05-31-2011, 09:47 AM #23
This has happened to me a few times. Called Verizon and they suggested a hard reset, and if that doesn't work they'll send me another Tbolt. I'm afraid to ask them for another Tbolt. Kind of willing to settle with mine for now for fear of going through half a dozen duds like some people here have had the misfortune of dealing with

I had this problem where it shut off during the nite then missed the alarm in the morning twice in a week. After that I set another alarm that I knew was dependable. Didnt have any problems for about 2-3 weeks, then happened again as the alarm started to go off.... i knew the phone was on 10 mins before then. After that time the phone would not come on. Battery was fully charged all night long.
Went into VZW and they thought it was the phone, ordered me a replacement and when the replacement came I had to go back to the store for a new 4G sim card and the replacement didnt come on either.... ended up the phone is fine, but was the battery that was bad. I kept my old phone and they gave me a new battery.
