Default No mobile data connection on thunderbolt. Wife's incredible working fine.

Started down the road today and when I drove out of range of my wi-fi I expected my 3G to kick in. However, nothing.

At first, it wouldn't show any icons next to my phone service bars. Then, after much tinkering, I clicked on software update. It showed the sync symbol and the 3G icon came up. After a moment it said no updates available.

The icon stayed so I tried speedtest but it said no connection. Same with any other internet program.

I've reported the phone. I've pulled the battery. Nothing. Wi-Fi will work.

I thought maybe it was a network problem but I sent a picture from my wife's phone to mine and she sent fine. When it hit mine, I got a message telling me I'd received an MMS and I hit download. However, after a long while it said it was unable to download.

I'm at a loss. Short of doing a factory reset, I don't know what to do. I'm reluctant to do that because ill lose all my apps and such and I'm afraid it will be for nothing and won't fix a thing.

    Ideas or suggestions?

Reboot. Check again. Or, battery/sim pull, then reinsert and turn on.

Hopefully the update due in mid-June will fix issues like this.

Only thing I haven't tried is pulling the sim card. I can try that I suppose.

Ok, pulled battery and sim card. Reboot, I have 1x but still no 3g. Wife's phone still showing 3g.

    Any ideas from here?

Next thing I would try is to set it specifcally to 3G (turn off 4G) and see it gets 3G after that.

I'm having the same problem in LA. Only web browsers are affected. Speed Test run fine.
I have tried reboots, battery/SIM pulls and nothing has helped.

I would call Verizon , but they would just tell me to do the same before asking me to do a factory reset.

If that doesn't work, dial ##778, hit edit, enter 000000 for the code. Go to modem settings and change Rev A from EHRPD to Enabled. Hit the menu button and commit changes. Phone will reboot. If it works, they're likely having a network issue. If it doesn't, I'd think your phone is borked.

Ok, tried the modem settings. I have 3g again. Oddly though, my connection is slower than before.

I got to try 4g last weekend. 1657 kB/s was mighty impressive.

I assume whenever I'm in that area, I have to go undo what I just did?

I tried that as well. Same problem on or off the eHRPD network.

Had same exact problem. Turned out to be a bad sim card. Replacing the sim card will fix the issues.

I had this same problem today, out of the blue. Nothing has been changed on my phone, no new apps no settings changed, just stopped giving me 3g and 4g icon and no internet except for wifi. Phone and texting work fine. Rebooted many times, airplane mode, took out battery, sim card, yada yada. I am rooted bamf, but all working fine until today.

I came across this post with the 'magic' menu and did the EHRPD thing and it works fine now! Now I just have to remember to change it back in a few days to see if whatever it was that is not working, is now working.

I didn't want to call Verizon cuz they would find out I rooted my phone and then wouldn't help me.
    Thanks!!!

I had this problem earlier in the week. Left home, no data anywhere I went...both on 4G and 3G. Called Verizon and was given their always helpful 'everything is fine' response.

This has been happening to me several times a day for quite sometime now nothing I do has fixed it. This is very frustrating especially since they block personal email where I work so I get no emails until the data magically comes back.

The first step I always try is pulling the SIM card for *longer than* two minutes. Then replace the SIM, and make absolutely certain the battery cover is on securely with no gaps.

Sadly with the Thunderbolt's modular radio system, it means there are more parts to potentially affect connection.
