Media scanning problem solved
I thought I'd post some info in case anyone else is having trouble with the media scanner running incessantly on their phone. I have the LG Intuition and I thought I was having trouble after an update. I was ready to steal my husband's upgrade to get a new phone. The media scanner got to a point where it was running nonstop for days. It was killing my battery and I couldn't access my camera while it was running. Initially, I figured out how to put a bandaid on the problem by stopping the media process. Now, I think I've figured out the real problem.
On my phone, the issue seems to have come from a corrupt photo. I deleted out all of the photos on my phone using the factory installed gallery and the problem vanished. (The photos that had already been backed up in Picasa reappeared on my phone minutes later.) I was fairly certain that the problem on my phone was from an image because I was able to access the music and other files that was stored on my phone even while the scanner was running.
I had to get the media scanner to stop running before I could delete out the photos. I found two ways to do this. First, I went into the settings menu and found the running apps. I found the Google process for "media" and clicked the "stop" option. I had to restart the phone and wait for the scanner to actually stop running. Sometimes, I had to restart the phone more than once. The other thing that worked was plugging the phone into a PC. I had to wait 5 or 10 minutes for the scanner to stop running, but it worked. I don't know why it worked, but that worked several times. It was actually a more reliable method than just stopping the media process in the running apps. In all honesty, it took me a long time to fix the problem, but now I love my phone again. It's running great.
I hope this helps someone else...
