During a phone call on the phone screen on upper left is a wiggly line icon like a sound wave. What is it for?

Yeah, B Diddy is correct, it's noise cancelation. Pretty much cancels or better yet attempts to cancel out any background noise on your end.

You'd think they would put that in the icon glossary. So I need to push that icon to cancel background noise or does symbol tell me noise cancellation is already on?

Funny, the phone itself has an icon glossary but it isn't there. Even in manual I found no explanation of how to engage noise cancellation nor exactly what it does. Under in call sound it also doesn't explain adapt sound vs clear sound nor which is the default.

The icon glossary is probably just describing the icons that may appear in your Notification bar, not elsewhere.

Check out the page in the manual right before the Table of Contents. There's an explanation of the Dynamic Noise Suppression there.

Is it on by default or do I touch the icon or what? Not exactly intuitively obvious.

What happens if you touch the icon? Otherwise, page 282 of the manual describes going into the Call Settings and tapping Noise Reduction to turn it on.
