Hey everyone. Just signed up with Verizon. Got on a plan where I get 450 minutes a month and 2 gb of data. Looking to see if anyone knows of a app that is 100% free to download and use to make cell phone calls over wifi that wouldn't use my cell phone minutes

Didn't Verizon have an app for that? BobSled, I believe... something like that... You have 450 minutes, why would you need more? Do people even TALK on their phones anymore? (Yeah, that last bit was sarcasm...although I seldom use more than 30 or 40 minutes a month since a couple years ago :p)

Bobsled was a T-MO VOIP app, unless you were being sarcastic & mentioning it in that light.

I use Groove IP with my Google Voice number, bought the pro version so that I use data when on 4g (no minutes used) and still able to call on Wifi (no minutes)---but it does call directly from/to your Google voice number, so your VZW wouldn't be touched.

I still do :). My average is about 1.5k minutes, 2k texts, and 75 GB a month.

Wow! You spend nearly an hour a day on the phone? Like...talking? :p Hehehe Just kidding, I just don't find the need to talk anymore and SMS was definitely dead for me since my first smartphone 10 years ago (Now I feel old...er). But 75GB a month? So, basically you dumped 'real' Internet for mobile data? Numbers like that and I totally get why carriers came up with the 'Fair Use' policies :p

Nope.. I still have home internet (comcast).. And as you can see below I use data there as well. My use is fair.. It's all real usage.. Netflix.. Music streaming (also shown below)... You know the stuff they advertise for smartphones to do on TV? :).

This isn't free but for $2.99/month you can have an unlimited subscription to call mobile and land lines in the US through Skype. It can be configured so that your cell phone number shows up in Caller ID if that's what you want. I use this when I'm out of the country, so I can call home all I want when I have WiFi for $2.99.

I thought groove ip was supposed to stop working in may?

Anyway, have you considered prioritizing calls using your unlimited allotment (m2m,n&w)? I have used over 10,000 minutes before on my line alone and I have the 550 minute family share plan.
