I had no idea y the phone was acting goofy, tried hanging it up missed a few calls trying to switch over to another call. I just happened to b in settings and asked Google wat the proximity sensor was important to have on and it brought me to all the pros w t g e phone calls. Still haven't figured out if I need it on I'm assuming yes. I guess it'll b a lesson learned. Just like all my endeavors ha.

Just remove the back of the phone and blow out the area at the top.

The proximity sensor just turns the screen off or back on presuming if your face is next to the phone... You are making a call and don't need the screen on... Thus saving battery.

It has nothing to do with answering or hanging up the phone.
