Different Vibrate Patterns for Calls vs Notifications

Hello,
I'm new to all of this android stuff. I always keep my phone on vibrate and i am trying to figure out how to set one vibrate pattern for actual phone calls (basic call) and another vibrate pattern for notifications (heatbeat). Right now it seems like you cant separate out the patterns based on calls or notifications. Am I doing something wrong?

Not the most convenient but you can change the vibraye pattern per individual contact. This would work if most the calls you get are from a small group of people. Otherwise may meed to get third party notification app.

I really wanted to do it by App. For instance...I have the Groupme app installed on my phone. Whenever i get a new Groupme notification I'd like to have a different vibrate pattern than I would when I actually get a phone call. If this cant be done in the system do you know any 3rd party apps that I could use. I am not rooted.
