    Default disable OTA update notification

Ok now that update is being pushed ota, is there s way to disable the notification? Getting popup every time I unlock my phone. I am not rooted yet but do not want to lose the option. So 'installing the update' is not good solution to get rid of the notification.

Ok temporary fix is long press on the notification and select 'app info' then FC, I do not have option to disable notification (greyed out).

The only way to remove that is to root your phone

and for the record, I do read before posting.
It seems like this is as good a place as any to post how to disable OTA on Galaxy S4 directions.

So I went and did some more digging.
    Here is the link.

How to Block OTA Updates on Samsung Galaxy S4 - Androidayos

I tried this, and instead of deleting the files, I just moved them to a backup folder in case I ever want them again.

The files are located in /system/app folder.
You WILL need Root Explorer (file manager)... WAY cool app and worth every penny.

This worked for me for now.
I do have a rooted phone, and I may want the new update at some point in the future, but I also want root access and CWM in case something better comes along.

(not part of this thread directly) BTW, I have tried stock google, Hyperdrive, and CM10.1 extensively over the last 3 weeks. I actually used CM10.1 nightlies for 2 weeks as my primary phone and then hyperdrive for a week again as my primary phone. I finally got tired of the little glitches, like phone wont dial at 4.20 pm for whatever reason, and went to a cleaned stock verizon release. Phone works much better now.
The ROMS are cool, I have to say, but not quite baked all the way through.

I will update the thread if/when OTA install comes back.

Wow my first posting here, although I have been lurking for years... and ill be damned.
OK that did not work for long.
I am thinking that I may already have the update.zip file on my phone again, hiding in the cache directory somewhere, and that the program konwn as SDM, is simply trying to install it.
I am now going to hunt the update.zip file down and delete it.

BTW, here is another method that seems to reportedly work well.

To block the OTA update, Uninstall SDM 1.0 - xda-developers

I deleted update.zip early this morning in the /cache/fota folder. It was not located in /cache as I have seen on some posts today. That made the update go away until 1.00pm CST. It seems to have downloaded again to the phone, but not in the same place as last time. It is not in the /cache/fota folder.
I am therefore searching the phone for its whereabouts.

I think at this point, I am going to delete the .zip file, and put the freeze on SDM. I will also probably put the files back into /system/app and rename them to something like .apk.keepme so they stand out, should I ever want to update in the future, and to try and make this simple and not too much of a mess.

OK this worked and the updater is not attempting to install the update anymore.
I gave up looking for the update.zip file at this time. I needed to get back to using the phone.

So in summary, the above mentioned post..... freezing SDM works great. Could not be easier.
That update was getting on my last nerve this morning.

    Later.

Here is a way to block ota updates you need root and titanium backup. use the freeze all apps feature and deselect all then locate SDM select it by put a check in the box and then click the green check in the top right corner.

On my Galaxy S4,I used a long press, selected app info, and had an option to "Turn Off" the app. Fixed it for me.

I do have my phone rooted, but I believe there are some apps you can find to disable apps. I do believe that most of them require root access, but you may find something else that would work.
