    Default Pay for unlimited text?

    Hi~
Our T-mobile contract is up soon and the wife and I are going to join the rest of you in the 21st century and get androids.
Liking the galaxy nexus and this is likely what we'll get. We plan on providing a basic phone to our dog walker but he doesn't want anything special so it'll be one of the free basic phones. He doesn't text or use the phone for anything other than calls and even that is rare.
So I'm looking at pricing tiers for the family plan and for three phones I have the choice of $.20 per text or $30 for unlimited text.

Seems to me that since the wife and I will have GN's we'd be able to text for free anyway? How does that work? She and I also receive text messages from our friends, would we have to pay if they send text messages to our phones?

Does anyone pay for unlimited text even if you have an android? Thanks!

I believe google voice can provide free text once it is set up. The other thing is that yes, a lot of us on smartphones use various instant messaging apps, but trying to get all your friends to jump on the band wagon for the same app has proven to be all most impossible, at least for me, YMMV. Personally I just pay for the unlimited text, that way my bases are covered. I try to use the apps, but can txt for the people that use that as well.

I just did a quick review of our past bills and it looks like the most in one month was 61 text messages combined. Yea, I think I'll take that $.20 per text deal. We'll use the G-text option between ourselves and still save $$.
    Thanks!

I just looked at Verizon's site. They have changed their messaging tiers since we signed up. We're getting 500 texts/month, plus unlimited mobile-to-mobile texting for $5 per line per month, and it looks like they no longer offer that.

Disable texting and use Google Voice if you're concerned with money.
