    Default would this work

Currently I have a family plan with one smartphone on the primary line with grandfathered unlimited data. I don't want to lose that so here's what I'm planning to do and see if it works.

One of my other lines is due for upgrade soon so I'm planning to use that and upgrade it to galaxy s3 with a $30 2gb plan on that line. After activating this phone, I'm going to activate back the old device. And then, activate galaxy s3 on my primary line. Do you think I can sneak this by the evil red?

Basically what I did. I added a new line and got the S3 on it. Took the SIM out of my RAZR MAXX and then put it in the S3. Then I activated my old Thunderbolt on the new line I got the S3 on. Worked fine.

I bought my friend a RAZR by buying the phone with an upgrade on his account which has a dumb phone on it. They switched the smartphone to her account and put my dads account back to its original state. She has a full warranty active on her device and unlimited data too. Verizon knew my intentions and handled it properly while setting it up on her account as the final destination.
She got one heck of a Christmas gift. Lol.

As long as you do it through Verizon, you're fine. If you do this through a third party such as Amazon it may not work as some have requirements for keeping the phone and/or plan on the upgraded line. Just in case you want to go the third party route, read the fine print first.

Thanks. Stoked to learn I'll be getting my S3 at the end of this month!

Just wondering how this math works $30 a month extra for two years = $720 + $200+ for the phone seems like a lot to get an early upgrade.

The phone can be removed from the line and the $30 data package can be dropped by putting a dumb phone on the line. I did this exact thing when I bought my best friend a RAZR for Christmas on my dads line. I told the Verizon representative that I had access to his account and I was verified with proper identification. The phone was bought on his line and I signed a contract extension for him. Yes, I was allowed to and I didn't do it behind my dads back. Verizon removed the data off of my dads line immediately, activated it on her line, and put my dads phone back on his line.

End result? Same as before with no account changes.
