[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Would BigTymer228 situation work the same in my favorite except that I transfer my UDP upgrade to the TDP line and follow the same steps as above? In other words my situation:

Line 1 2gb TDP
Line 2 (Me) Unlimited Data Plan upgrade eligible

Here is what I would like to do all while keeping my UDP
A. Transfer UDP Upgrade to TDP
B. Order phone on TDP and upgrade
C. Receive phone and activate on TDP line
D. Transfer new phone over to my UDP line
E. Reactivate TDP original phone.

I plan on doing the same (actually, I already did steps A & B). Does anyone know if this will work? I currently have a 4S on the UDP line, so a sim swap wouldn't work for me.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi detta123,when you pkaced the order on apple. Com, did it ask you to choose a new data plan?

Yes, but it doesn't really matter. Amazon makes you select a new one too, but as long as you don't activate the SIM they send with the phone, and use your current one, your golden (atleast I'm assuming. I haven't seen anyone try with Apple, just BB and Amazon)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Upgrade from iphone4 to iphone 6 and keep unlimited data:

Just want to confirm this will work before I do it. Please confirm if you agree this will work:

I have unlimited data plan(UDP) on my wife's and my phones and teared data plans(TDP) for my sons phone(iphone 5). My sons line, TDP, has an upgrade available. My wife has a iphone 4s and we want to upgrade to a iphone 6. Here is my plan:

1) Go to Verizon web site and order new iphone 6 on my son's line which does not require any changes to any data plans.
2) Then, when phone arrives I will activate on his line then immediately reactivate his current iphone 5 on his line. So the iphone 6 will not be on any lines.
3) I'll then go to Verizon site and "activate or switch out device" activate the new iphone 6 on my wifes line.

I believe that will result in no changes to any data plans and my wife will then have the iphone 6 active on her line and keep the UDP. Does anyone see any problems with this approach?

I know some places suggest NOT taking step 2 and just switch out sim cards and activate on my wife line but the problem is they have different sim card sizes and I don't want to mess with "cutting down" or doing something else with the sim cards. Does that cause any problems?

I truly appreciate any feedback anyone has on this plan!

THANKS!

Since the upgrade is not coming from the unlimited line you should have no problem keeping unlimited.

After you get the Phone if you can't get it activated on your wife's line you can just go to store to get a new SIM for it.

I really should grow a pair and do the same, I'm just so afraid to lose my unlimited data

A colleague of mine just did this through Amazon. It worked out fine for him. If you do lose unlimited days, you have 14 days to return the phone and restore your account. That's not saying you won't have any hassle though!

I am going to transfer my upgrade and do that method buy my question is does the Iphone 6 have a special SIM card that enables NFC or can i get a SIM card adapter and use a current nano sim card (one for like the iphone 5s) to put in my S3 before I switch phones?

what if Verizon discovers the "mistake" 3 months later and update your plan to 2gb tiered data?

It was being done as early as Christmas 2013,and I haven't heard any reports of that happening. That said, it could.

i do have another question. If i transfer my UDP upgrade to a TDP line, do i actually activate the TDP line to the new phone, and then switch it to my UDP line? or do i transfer my UDP upgrade to TDP, use the upgrade and NOT activate in on the TDP but then use my UDP sim card in the new phone?

thanks

The way Scyzek did it, and AFAIK the only way it's been done successfully without triggering the 2 yr data requirement, is to:

-Transfer upgrade to TDP line
-Buy phone on TDP line
-Receive phone, remove included SIM card before powering phone on
-Insert SIM from UDP line
-Turn phone on

I haven't seen anyone do it the other way, activating on TDP line first, but I have missed a few posts since all the UDP threads got merged. I would suspect that activating it on TDP line first would trigger the data plan requirement on the UDP line and therefore cause loss of unlimited.

I feel ya. I feel better know I can return it in 14 days and go back to the way I was if it doesn't work, but I have no doubt it will work. Upgrade is gone, account doesn't say any pending data changes (useally it does).

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am also attempting an upgrade through Apple.com. Ordered earlier today with delivery on launch day. Here's the scenario:

Line 1: UDP, out of contract, upgrade eligible
Line 2: UDP, out of contract, upgrade eligible (wife's line)

I did the upgrade for Line 2 and am having the phone shipped to my house. When it arrives, I will put the SIM from Line 1 into the new iPhone6 and see what happens.

The only thing that's weird is that, on my Verizon Wireless account, neither the contract date nor the upgrade eligibility date have changed - for either line. The only thing that's different is that the "upgrade eligibility" checker on BestBuy.com (or amazon, wherever) shows that Line 2 is not eligible for upgrade and then shows the upgrade date as September 2013 (lol).

Happened to me too. Give it a day and it will go away, sadly. :( lol. Apple emailed me and said that they needed to confirm my upgrade since their server wasn't able too. Not a big deal, but as soon as I did it the upgrade and contract updated but unlimited data still there. I ordered a Note 3 from BB awhile ago and it never took the upgrade away, so it can happen :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys,
I just wanted to look for some clarification on this before I get my hopes up. My current setup is 4 lines. Line 1 and 2 have UDP which are eligible for upgrades and line 3 and 4 had basic phones which are not eligible atm. Last night, thorough my verizon I logged in and added a TDP to line 3 of 2gb about an hour before the preorder and activated my wifes old Galaxy Nexus LTE. I then at midnight PST, transferred the upgrade from my line 2 (UDP, my wife's line) to line 3 and used that line to preorder the iPhone 6 plus. I understand that when the iPhone 6 arrives I must remove the new sim before powering on and replace it with my old UDP sim from Line 1. What isn't clear is at what point during the scyzek method can I safely downgrade my Line 3 which I used to preorder the Iphone back to a basic phone and kill the TDP? If this is no longer possible then what would be the best way of activating the 6GB TDP that Verizon is offering on my wife's line since she uses much less data than me? In store, Phone, or returning the iPhone 6 and reordering through a store when they return to stock.

I would assume you would be safe to deactivate it after you insert your UDP sim in the new phone and you have confirmed on your account that it is truly UDP. please let me know how this works! i plan on doing the exact same thing for the new iphone

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey everyone! I follow this thread a few months back and i successfully kept my unlimited data by ordering a phone online from verizon. Once the phone arrived i used a sim cutter to go from micro sim to nano sim and activated the new phone with my old sim that had the UD info on it.

Unfortunately i have realized i made a mistake buying a windows phone XD. I want to buy a used samsung galaxy s5 from a friend. But i hear the s5 has a micro sim.

If i go to verizon will they give me a new micro sim card? Will this effect my data if i activate it or let them activate with this new micro sim? Sorry if this is a silly question... verizon has made me very paranoid about my unlimited data plan.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

@ All

Regarding any account bans of certain members, its been explained a few posts back that the reason for a forum account ban is due to violating forum rules and guidelines. We don't ban a member just because they are discussing methods pertaining to keeping your Verizon Unlimited Data Plan. This is perfectly legal, Verizon supports it and we also support it here for discussion. The only area we do frown upon in that discussion is " Selling " your UDP plan in the forums. We would rather have you contact a member privately and discuss this outside the public forums just to leave Android Central and Mobile Nations (our parent forum/company) out of any legalities that maybe involved in such a transaction.

Getting back to the first part, Macro was banned for reasons which will remain private. We agree Marco was a very helpful and intelligent individual but there is other circumstances that were in play here that we will not discuss involving that member. Macro is welcome to reach out to James Falconer (Community Manager), james@mobilenations.com if they wish to discuss the reason for the ban. Anyone who ever has a question regarding something is welcome and encouraged to PM me personally, I will always respond and do my best to answer any and all questions as long as they don't break any confidentiality rules about other members.

With that said, please continue your discussion. Make the best of that UDP while it still exists because we all know eventually one day Verizon will have it completely abolished.
