[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I would like to move from my 3G iPhone 4s to a 4G phone and only have one line on my account. Another poster mentioned activating an intermediary phone, with 4G, before using the BB method. Is the safest method, or could I simply order a nano sim from Verizon and use 4G for the first time in the new phone.

It's generally safer to get an intermediary 4G phone on your account. However, there is a method than would work if you don't go that route:

1) Order a new SIM card for the new phone you will be ordering by calling Verizon and having one shipped to you;
2) Order the new phone using a UDP line's upgrade on a UDP line from a 3rd party retailer ship to home;
3) When the new phone arrives, do not turn it on or plug it in, remove the SIM card that ships with the phone and destroy it;
4) Log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch a device;
5) If you are asked do you want to activate the phone that just shipped to you, click on "No, I want to activate a different device" (you may or may not be asked this);
6) Click you want to activate a device that has not been on your account b/f;
7) Type in the IMEI of the device and SIM card number of the SIM card you ordered in Step 1; and
8) Continue to follow the instructions.

I got my note 4 today from bb and did the sim swap. Worked like a charm. Single line udp still intact

Kinda bumping my own post from earlier. Anyone have info on pending activations and if they are worth waiting on them to fall off and the timeline on how long that takes?

Some have reported immediately when they activated phone on another line. Some up to a week.

UPDATE:

I successfully upgraded and currently still have unlimited data. Thanks to those who helped me the last few days. This droid turbo with the ballistic nylon is sexy and i have yet to find something i don't like about it.

Here's what I did:

On myverizon, I transferred UDP upgrade to my tiered data line and purchased the droid turbo. Received it the next day in the mail and removed the sim that came with it and violently destroyed it. I then inserted my UDP sim card and BAM! IT WORKED. I didn't bother activating it on my tiered line first as previous posts here said it was unneeded.

And you don't see a pending activation?

I haven't looked but I'm sure its there.. I don't really care about it because it'll eventually fall off

Sometimes the pending activation can take up to the rest of the billing period. Most fall off within a month.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just out of curiosity for others who did BB on a dumbphone, did they get this warning as well:

I understand Best Buy reserves the right to charge the remaining portion of the full retail device price to my credit card if I cancel my 2-year contract within 14 days and don't return the device.

That warning is standard. You'll be fine as long as you don't activate the phone on the dumbphone line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's a good question.. Since I did the transfer thing and just put the turbo on my UDP line instead of activating it on the tiered line first..

Do I still get to claim the $100 trade in promo Verizon is offering?? And for those who got the turbo..how long did it take to get the text for the promo?

Thanks for the reply! Just wanted to make sure it was still something we just wait out and didn't have to take any action on.

Wanted to add this: if we used an upgrade method on a single line (BB method) and say something happened to our sim and we needed another one. Will the new sim be associated with our UDP or will it be associated with the plan we chose when we upgraded?

Thanks for the help. I'll probably just pick a droid bionic up on eBay and walk around with it for a few weeks. Sounds like the safer play.

Can you upgrade a non 4G UDP line to a new phone? My bro is finally ready to ditch his droid X and get a new phone. I know who still has a Droid X? He has unlimited data. Can this be done? My thought was to take a Galaxy Nexus I have and SIM and just try to activate it on his line. Then I was going to transfer an upgrade to another TDP line and upgrade that line. Then when the new phone comes in do the activation on the TDP line. Wait an hour then transfer new phone to UDP line that GN is now on(formerly X). Any idea if this will work?
From my understanding, this should work.

So I couldn't find the SIM that was in my Galaxy Nexus. So I stopped by VZW store and had them activate it on my line and give me a new SIM. Got home and re activated my S5 on the line. All is good. The thing that is making me wonder about adding the G Nexus on my bro UDP line is the last step of switching a phone onto a line is swapping the SIM. The Droid X SIM won't work in the G Nexus and is 750 miles away. Can I just activate on the Droid X line and select the option that says activate a phone that has never been on this account before and enter in the SIM card and IMEI # off the Nexus?

Update on best buy method and pending activations. I've seen numerous people post that their pending activations have maintained for over a month on various sites. Seems that they aren't dropping off like they did at first, for whatever reason that may be. The suspend/reconnect service method hasn't helped any drop off recently, either. Just want everyone to be aware that you may have to deal with a pending activation over a long period of time if you don't have success getting your contract extended when activating your new phone.

If anyone comes up with any new methods or ways to get the pending activation removed please update us all. Otherwise, I view this as a risk you might not want to take just to get a subsidized phone due to having to avoid Verizon from here on out if it never falls off.

I've only had first hand experience with Verizon pending activations after ordering upgrade on the non-UDP line which have fallen off for me. I'm not sure if Best Buy is different.

What was your fall off time just out of curiosity? What I've seen is people with one line and using the BB method and having pending activations lasting over a month with no changes. Just a summation of info from many forums and even posts on reddit. I have seen quite a few that used your method and had them drop off rather quickly. It's definitely odd how it works.

It was pending the day after I got my phone. I didn't worry about it and checked a week later and it was gone. I didn't look every day. So could be anywhere between 1 to 7 days.

That's the same thing I've heard for nearly everyone who upgraded like you did. I wish I had another like on my account to have done it that way and I would have lol. I just have my single line. I may wait until the 13 day and if it is still there I'll initiate the return and try again after my upgrade returns. It's a hassle, but I want to make sure it goes free and clear before I hold on to the phone. I have N6 coming this month and want to make sure I don't screw anything up before I get it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does anyone know if you can suspend a verizon loyalty plan (30 minutes, pay per use text, UDP) without billing and nothing on the plan will be affected? Thanks!
