I can sympathize with you there. I work for an hourly wage and commission as well as having some aggressive goals to meet. It can indeed be a little annoying to have to take the time to do something for someone that literally could have saved THEMSELVES time and effort by using a self service tool. What I always try to remember though is that I am also paid to help those people and, along with my goals, customer service and support is also part of my job. I find myself reminding my coworkers of this a lot.

I compare it to any other situation where I "pay," either with money or time, for convenience. I think most people do it. I won't pretend to know what your job pressures or goals are but if you try thinking of it like that it may help you get through your day.

That's what I am trying to find out. I know a large percentage of people openly admit that they chose 'to become a new customer' simply because they want to talk to someone.

You're cashing paychecks from Verizon, right? Then you need to represent Verizon in a positive way at all times. Take the 30 seconds to find out what they need, get them transferred to the right person, and do it with a smile. Tossing them back to the main 800 number, which you claim to do, makes for a bad customer experience.

You want to talk about how lazy everyone is, your 'it's not my job' attitude epitomizes that.
