Default 2 unlimited data lines - using one for upgrade

    Hi all,

I have two lines with unlimited data, one of which is mine which we'll call "unlimited", and want to use the other line's upgrade, which we'll call "forfeit", for a Note 2 and swap it to the "unlimited" line to keep my unlimited data. I also want to "downgrade" the upgraded line to a dumbphone line without the data plan. Following this thread on how to keep the unlimited data - [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon
    I'm thinking the process is:

    1. Use upgrade on the "forfeit" line for Note 2.
    2. Activate Note 2 on "forfeit" line.

The next step is what I'm not entirely sure about.
    3. Reactive old phone on "forfeit" line, freeing up Note 2 for "unlimited" line. Call Verizon and cancel data plan and have them activate a dumbphone I already have on the "forfeit" line.
    OR
    3. Activate a dumbphone on "forefeit" line instead of the smartphone that was previously on it, freeing up Note 2 for "unlimited" line.
    4. Activate Note 2 on "unlimited" line.

    My questions are -
    a. If I activate a dumbphone on the "forfeit" line does it automatically drop the data plan?
    b. Can I activate the dumbphone at step #3 and skip calling Verizon to cancel or do I have to activate the previous phone that was using the line?
    c. I'm guessing dropping a data plan doesn't incur ETF does it?
    d. Could I buy the Note 2 at a retailer that sells the Note 2 for cheaper (Best Buy price match etc.) and still be able to do the steps above?

I tried search but couldn't find a answers to my particular situation. All help and answers are very much appreciated. Thanks!

No need to call verizon to cancel the data plan or activate the old phone or the dumb phone on the forfeit line. This can be done online as long as the line doesn't have unlimited data. You will be charged for the data plan that month but the next month's bill will show a credit for the data plan. Annoying that the current month doesn't show the credit, but for me, it took one month for the credit to show up.

Do NOT do it this way. If you activate a subsidized phone that has never been activated before on an unlimited line, it will switch you off of unlimited. Activate the subsidized Note 2 on the forfeit line first and then activate a dumbphone on the forfeit line and then switch the Note 2 to the unlimited line.

It asks you what data plan you want and you just select pay as you go.

Not if you buy the Note 2 from verizon or best buy. If you buy from Amazon wireless, they charge you a fee if you drop the data plan.

He nailed it. What causes the unlimited data plan to disappear is when a phone purchased at a subsidiary price is activated on that unlimited line for its first activation.

Activate the subsidized phone on any other line, I think even another account then your unlimited line.
