I am on the legacy family share plan with 5 lines of service and pay $15 in taxes and fees total, or about $3 per line.

3 lines on family share and pay $23.61 so $7.87 per line. That is all the taxes, surcharges and fees, including the verizon surcharges.

Well that explains it - you do not pay state sales tax on your wireless service whereas in other states you do.

Btw, I pay sales tax on full retail for phones, so they get me too. I bought my Note II for $37 about a year ago and paid $71 in taxes

It is not clear from the bill so I would have to try to figure it out. I get hit with a state and county tax, but then again, I don't pay state income tax so the state has to make revenue somehow.

yeah, the least the People's Republic of California can do is not tax you on the wireless services then. I don't know how anyone can afford to live in California unless you are a poor person receiving government aid from all those taxes that are paid, lol! Or a government worker receiving those ludicrous benefits and ridiculously early retirement age again financed by taxes!

Or one one those evil high-tech employees who are wrecking urban neighborhoods by pushing up rent and causing existing poorer folks to be evicted. (This is a reference to the stories coming out of San Francisco where company-funded shuttle buses are being physically attacked by residents. These "Google Buses" take employees from their apartments in San Francisco to their jobs on the San Francisco Bay peninsula.)

Single line (legacy talk plan 500 min. and unlimited data plan) in Alabama. I pay about $2.50 for Verizon surcharges and about $3.50 for taxes/government charges.

Every state varies. In some states it even varies by cities/towns and counties as well. I know where I live there are city and county taxes/fees in most places too.
