Just another one of their special branding names... Not too fond of the name either. Hopefully they won't have the Verizon logo + the 4G LTE logo + XLTE logo all on the phone.

Replacing 4G LTE's logo with an XLTE logo for applicable devices would make sense so the customer knows which are compatible with AWS.

I am guessing AWS.

Sent from my T-Mobile Note 3 using AC Forums.

Probably, based on the description. Similar to what t-mobile calls wideband lte most likely.

Is there a list of all phones that will operate on this band?

Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

Seems like any aws phone, so basically s4,s5,note 3, g2,Moto X, and most phones from last year.

Probably biggest and exception being the m7.

Just a quick Google search, so it may not be 100% accurate, and probably missing some, but just a rough list:

iPhone 5S
iPhone 5C
HTC One (M8)
LG G2
Lucid 3
DROID Ultra/MAXX
DROID Mini
Moto X
Lumia 928
Lumia 2520
Lumia Icon
Galaxy S5
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S4 Mini
Galaxy Note 3
ASUS Nexus 7 LTE

Some stuff may require OTA update (assuming the user hasn't updated them recently, like for the DROIDs and S4)

Is this similar to the move we all made from 3g to 4G where all phones will soon run on new frequencies and towers for data? I'm just curious if this is where Verizon is going to boot all of the people on unlimited by saying that no one can be grandfathered here because this is a new type of data.

No one knows exactly. But it sounds like aws related which a number of current devices can use

Even if you don't have an aws phone, if you are in an aws area, it would help to reduce network load as some phones will operate on XLTE.

Also keep in mind even though a city is listed as xlte, some towers in the city might not be aws capable. Verizon is upgrading the most heavily loaded towers first.

Is there an update to let my S3 use xlte or will KitKat add as?

Posted via Android Central App

S3 isn't aws capable. It doesn't have the hardware. Certain phones like the s4 and Note 3 had aws added via update.

It only makes a difference in high school load areas. I am in Los Angeles, and some areas have xlte, others don't. They are still expanding.

Also Verizon has been quietly rolling out xlte, I have been using it since last year. I think it is large enough now that they are making an official announcement.

Those crazy teens! ;) Sorry couldn't resist. :p

I've noticed increased speeds and network performance around Birmingham, AL, particularly around work (heavily populated business area), since the end of last year. Since this is on my Note 2 (doesn't support the new AWS spectrum), it's from newer devices utilizing the new AWS freeing up the old spectrum. :)
