My family has a old school family plan, 700 shared minutes, unlimited texting etc. Its not getting changed any time soon since my brother and I each have UDP. Now, I want to upgrade my mom to a smartphone, but knowing her, 2 gigs for 30 bucks is ridiculous since she'd probably never need anywhere near that. Is there anything that can be done for a long time customers, ie over 10 years, in which I might be able to get, I dunno, a 10 odd plan for my mom, like 500 megs, etc?

The cheapest data plan that I know of for the family share plan is the legacy 300mb plan for $20. Ymmv, it was offered a few years ago but not officially available now
