I got note 3 back in February. I was loving the lhone, but now it's just about broken, I can't get 4G anymore and having some other problems. I realize I did a 2 year contract, so I'm not looking for a way for Verizon to fix it. But if I were to buy a new phone at full retail (through someone other than Verizon) would I still pay an ETF fee?

No... I swap phones all the time (new and used). You would only pay your ETF if you do not fulfill your 2 year contract...

By switching phones wouldn't that be considered not fulfilling it?

No I also switch phones under contract. If you buy a phone and ask to use it on your number Verizon shouldn't care. They only care about you paying for the monthly bill for the full two year agreement.

I use AT&T but it shouldn't be any different.

You're only required to pay the ETF if you leave Verizon. If you buy another phone to use on their network you do not have to pay an ETF.

The contract is on the phone line.. Not the phone. So if you bought something else full price and just swapped the SIM to it.. They wouldn't care.

Have you tried to call Verizon about your problems? Perhaps you have a defective phone.

But to answer your question, you can swap phones anytime without affecting the contract or having to pay etf
