So I found someone selling a new Samsung S5. They just told me that they bought the phone through the edge program.

If they fail to pay for the phone will the phone become blacklisted?

I doubt they have paid the phone off yet.

The installment payments get put on their bill so the only way to stop paying for the phone is to stop paying the bill (essentially).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats true... My concern is if he stopped paying the bill doesn't the phone become blacklisted since verizon would like to recover the phone.

Just like how if you stopped paying your bill not and you are in a contract verizon will not allow that phone to be activated on any account since there is a past due on the phone.

    You are correct.

In all honesty, I wouldn't make the purchase just in case.

This sounds like a potential issue in the future. I would avoid it.

Will Verizon tell a potential buyer if a phone is on edge? This could make it hard to buy used Verizon phones in the future.

Ask if it's payed off. If they say yes ask to make the transaction at a Verizon store. If they are being honest they should have no problem letting Verizon verify the phone is payed for.

especially off of online sites like swappa where you don't get to know the IMEI number until you get the phone.

Any link that shows Verizon actually blacklisting a phone for no payment?

T-mobile and Sprint do and people have complained about it I believe somewhere on these forums IIRC; if not, I read it on other forums. I doubt Verizon wouldn't do the same. Why wouldn't they? From their perspective it is a stolen phone and the phone was stolen from Verizon.
