Travel to Mexico

I am traveling to Tequila, Mexico (just outside Guadalajara) in mid-October and wanted to know what is the best route to go as for having and using my phone while there. I mostly just need data and a few minutes to make a few calls. I am going to use Facebook messenger and WhatsApp for text.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That's why I was looking for advice, I don't know if it would be best to pay Verizon or get a prepaid sim while down there. And if so who is the best deal.

Yes. Prepaid sim will be way better. As far as coverage, I really have no idea.
