Just saw the droid bionic be realeased for LTE at CES, now as we get sooner to the release of lte on handsets will we be able to purchase a lte device like the droid bionic, without have LTE "activated" and instead use 3G only? Im in an area that probly wont see LTE for a while and am using the eris still :p and was just wondering if i would be able to purchase it without worrying about not having data majority of the time because of not being in an lte area.

Hang on till the lte news conference this afternoon and that should be answered. We are all still pretty much in the dark about how all the lte stuff is going to work out.

Did they even answer this question? Im in the same boat. We wont get LTE until 2013, but I want a Thunderbolt. I don't see the point of paying 4g pricing for 3g service unless its not a lot more.

no official word has been announced on pricing for 4g/ lte. the thunderbolt is due out in the coming weeks. still no release date of info on additional charges.
i spoke with a manager at local store, she seemed pretty confident in telling me there would be no extra charges for these devices monthly. but as most of us know they might not know anything. if they do announce something they will do it right before or day of release of bolt. which sucks for people waiting to sign a contract with verizon.

Looks like it's only showing Mobile Broadband plans. Aircard plans for computers.

Has nothing to do with 4G plans on the smart phone side.

I hope more information is made publicly about this. I too live in an area that does not have 4G currently (scheduled for later this year) but would love to upgrade to the ThunderBolt. I do not want to pay extra for 4G if I only get 3G though. :( Only time will tell. Hurry up VZW!
