Just browsing the news on the slider I came across

Evidently there is a code available -at the moment--that will bring the price (from the current $199) to $160 at the Virgin mobile site.

I just saw it today. If I caught it yesterday at the lower price point I would have took a 169 gamble on it. Dang it !

Well, the code from the link I posted yesterday is still valid so you could take a $160 gamble and get it.

I just spent about 15 minutes poking at the screen over and over trying to put in a password with my Optimus V.
If I had the $160 I'd love to have a keyboard just for the cursor control keys. I don't get why most of the onscreen keyboards don't have them.

I don't think the code works. It shows lower price in the cart but when you go to the check out screen, the price jumps back up to the original price.

supposedly, it only works for new users. If you have to log in to check out, you do not have the option of using it.....at least that is what I heard at slickdeals
Find me at 'Rock That Mobile' and 'Rock That LG Optimus V & Rock That Moto T'.

It may be that it will work with new "accounts"-- ie- it may be possible to start a new account, and qualify- and then transfer the phone to your existing account. This was being speculated about at techbargains.com this afternoon. Been tied up in mtgs all night so I haven't browsed since theafternoon for any reports of exiting users who have forged ahead successfully. If I had $160 on hand, I would have ordered it and reported back-- but I'm broke! Being broke , I'll still be happy I managed to get the V.

Hopefully Santa has at least a couple of elves monitoring Android Central for requests.
    Please forward.

    UPDATE !!
How about 15% off-- including existing customers-- all VM Beyond Talk Phones
Don't let the link title scare you off- it's not just an intercept sale.
    Motorola Triumph $255.
    LG Optimus Slider $169
    LG Optimus V $110.50
    Samsung Intercept $85.00

I have the Rumor Touch also and the Slider is one of the phones I am seriously considering for my first Android phone. Since she will be upgrading from the Rumor Touch also, I would love to hear what your wife thinks about the Slider when she gets it....

Guinea pigs are always welcome! I, too, look forward to your review - and to the impressions from others that are first adopters, as well.

    Holly

Update: there is already one review of the phone on the VM site. The reviewer's user name is "hateit..." Guess what he/she thought about the phone.....

    The OS is very nice. Compared to OV;

    1) Has a notification LED and it can be turned on and off from the settings. It blinks about 2 second on and 10 seconds off.

    2) Only the power switch turns on the phone unlike OV.

    3) Wifi hotspot does not work. As soon as the hotspot is turned on, 3G shuts off.

    4) Gingerbreak rooting does not work.

    5) Comes with 2G micro SD card. 178MB internal free space after boot up.

    6) Comes with an old version Swype (2.72)

    7) USB port has a cover and it's on the left side below the sliding keyboard.

    8) Does not have a dedicated Voice Search button.

    9) Camera is a bit fuzzier than OV and takes a wider angle shots than OV.

    10) Battery is slightly larger (1540 vs 1500 mAH)

    11) Battery usage is similar to OV. Signal strengh is slightly better than OV.

That's all I can think of. Someone needs to come up with a root method.

Check the other thread in this forum. The root there works. I used it myself.

It's solid red when charging, green when fully charged, and flashing green when there is a notification. I only wish I could get it to flash red instead. I'm sure there will be a tweak down the road sometime.

Vol & power buttons have also moved. Also OV battery will not fit into the OS without modification.
