Hey guys,

Does anyone think that there's a possibility of some day getting an Ice Cream Sandwich rom on the OS? I'd love to see it, as I know that it'll never get officially updated. I'd love to hear your thoughts!!!

Yea I don't think there will ever be an official VM ICS update for the phone but maybe if there is a high enough demand and people ask our lovely developers, then I'm sure we could have something in the future.

And that's always the problem: demand. I feel that nowadays there are soooo many Android devices that it's almost impossible for the smaller devices like the OS to get developer support. They often get overlooked. That's what I'm worried about. The OV was a strong exception of course, but that's because there were so many variations of the Optimus One around the world.

Yea I know exactly what you mean. Well let's just hope that the OS gets more popular and that the developers start bringing out at least a CM7 rom to start out with. And if that all goes well then I am sure we will see some more activity with customization and modding. I had the Motorola Triumph before I got this phone but it broke so I decided to go with the OS because it was cheaper. In all reality I'm thinking of returning the OS for the Motorola Triumph for now at least until more options are available for the phone.

I for one would love to see the ICS update. I'm picking up the Slider today to replace my decrepit Samsung Intercept. I'm visually impaired, legally blind, and would love ICS because It has (finally) adjustable os font sizes there's also better touch screen functionality when using a screenreader. Think I should try playing the ADA card (nicely) on LG for an update to this phone. Google has said that any phone that runs 2.3 should be able to recieve the update.

Food for thought: it took FOREVER to get Gingerbread on the Optimus One/Optimus S, and even then the update was ridiculously bugged because LG's software engineers are NOOBS.

Whether or not the Optimus Slider can *run* ICS is not the question. The real question is: does LG care enough to (a) do it and (b) do it right? I'm betting negative on that.

Ywah, still might be worth playing my ADA Hand. If they're doing it to provide access, than uaually, they do it right. :)

There is someone working on ICS, and putting CM7 over it into to our phone, minus the front camera stuff from ICS.. I dont know how long this is going to take, but I have been watching the progress.. I would defiantly be willing to kick in some bucks for the guy,who is doing this..

What thread?

Its not a thread its on Github, and I have no idea how far the progress is, but I can see him playing with the ICS source code for our phone and a couple others.. I am just happy that someone is working on our phone.. I would be happy with just CM7 .1 or .2..

I'm a little leery of rooting, I'm going to try politely asking (begging) through appropriate channels at LG first, then root if I have to. I've never found a rooter that knew how to root using a Mac.

It looks like we are not going to get CM7 ported over anytime soon.. If anyone wants to give it a try, I can get my hands on a some files that were worked on, for the port, and here is a tutorial on building a ROM.. Anybody that has any knowledge can give it a try. I will be able to help after the 10th.. http://forums.androidcentral.com/optimus-v-rooting-roms-hacks/104423-building-your-own-rom.html
I haven't read the tutorial yet.. its just something forwarded to me..

Why do you beleave we wont get it now?

Its not going to be anytime soon, I was told... Bobzhome was working on it.. He has a lot of other stuff going on.. Hes trying to port ICS on the V.. I was just going to see if anyone wants to learn how to build a ROM and or port it with CM7.. All of his work he said could be cloned and worked on, so if anyone wants to try its available.. Its a real challenge... You just have to read the tutorial that was done by Blarf...

Isn't the OVs hardware the same as the OS (with the exception of a keyboard and a notify light)? So wouldn't it be relatively easy to port a rom from the OV? Once my laptop comes back I'll look into it.

It has an entirely different board than the OV... Over my Christmas break, I was going to look to see if I can port it over myself, but never had the time to do it.. If anybody knows anything about how to port CM7 by all means, I could use some help..

I really wish cm7 was available for slider. I am amazed with well the v handles with it. It feels clearly superior to the slider in spite of the specs.

I to have the slider and the geek in me will always want more, I'm in therapy now but it doesn't look good......thanks for the developers who make the toys I so dearly love to play with.

They don't have to do anything, but it would be nice if they did. This is a low end device on a prepaid carrier - I am not hopeful.
