    Question New Purchase, confused

    Hi

    I just bought the LG Optimus and switched to Virgin Mobile. I have the $35 service. I activated the phone, which I guess worked, but I have no idea how to check. It will get to the web okay. I can't send or receive texts or calls yet. I did have to transfer my phone number from AT&T. My old phone doesn't do calls or texts now, either, so I assume that went alright. Is there a long wait time for the new service to start working?

    Also, every time I try to do anything on the web, first it tells me I have to set up my google account (which I did, twice now) and/or that I need to upgrade my downloads app. Currently I have version 2.0.1.

    When I set up my VM account, the rep said it would be 24 hours before I would be able to call or text. I'm guessing that's why you can't use those features yet. If text and calls don't work after the 24hr period, might want to give them a call back and make sure they set you up right.

    Your mileage may vary but usually you receive a call or a text when the phone is ready. Calling virgin mobile helps too. Welcome to the club!

    Especially since you had your number ported over it will take a while. they told me a couple days but it started working in about 18 hours. good luck and welcome to the best cheap service! I'm still locked in on the 25$ plan! yay!

    I was told mine could take up to 48 hours. I set mine up online, porting the number over from ATT.

    Within 2 hours it was working fine.

    I'm surprised as ATT didn't try to screw me over with early cancellation fees (it was exactly as I had calculated!)

    What I find funny is the "activation" app on the phone never has worked. I never even used it from the get go and if I try to use it now I just get a 'failed' message. Doesn't look like I ever needed to though.

    Activation app has personally saved my 3g connection dozens of times.

    Hrmm that's strange.. if I click on Activate it hangs up and eventually comes up with an error message. Everything seems to work fine though (Text, MMS, Voice, Data, 3G) so I'm not too worried about it.. just curious what it was used for.
