VMUSocialcare asking for my pin?

I'm trying to get a replacement Optimus V due to battery charging issues. I've tried using a different cable already but the power charging is tetchy and harder to make that connection every time. Rather than take the chance of my warranty running out I'm trying to get it replaced.

My concern is the person I'm emailing at VMUSocialcare asking for my pin. Can they do that? Are they supposed to do so?

I know when I have called VM, they sometimes ask to verify you are the account holder.

I ended up calling them using a friend who hears better on the phone than I do. (I'm hard of hearing and even the slightest bit of an accent makes communication nearly impossible.) Virgin Mobile is going to be sending me a new Optimus V to replace the one that is having the problem.
