Default VM updates/changes OV box info?

I just got a new OV and i noticed the box info was not the same . Does anyone have an idea as to why they would change some of the info?

The new screen feels more responsive... Do you think thats the reason LG is now using the hitachi screens?

The red rings is the old box. The black rings are the new box.

They made changes to the phone, so the box may have had to change.

Nice to see they made the talk time more realistic
However, the ONLY way you will see 7 days standby is in airplane mode the whole time on an efficient rom. Even 74 hours is impossible on the stock phone, it's more like 32 hours (with a clear signal and you not touching it), only the most efficient roms can do 74 hours standby using that same method. One week is a flat out lie.

Yeah 7 days seems a little much. Do you think IHO can achieve those hrs? The talk time seems about right, i would agree. I wonder if they fixed the TWS bug on 2.2.2

    Absolutely not.
Harmonia and Rodimus are the best at battery., The best I have seen under real use was 45 hours and that was under pretty light use. I think I can do mid 30's or so on IHO if I stretch it. 72 hours, yeah, if your phone sits on a table undisturbed with one of these roms, but stock, there is no way. Stock phones have trouble making it 8 hours for many people, including myself, under light use.

I have heard of people getting a week on IHO, however they had data off almost the entire time and went into airplane mode or turned it off at night.

2.2 still has the TWO bug I believe.

I was under the impression that 2.2.2 was worse than 2.2.1

My phone is 2.2.2 running IHO and I can go three days without disabling anything if need be with very light usage if I'm in a wi-fi area (forget it if it stays connected to 3G) but that's really stretching it.

I'm happy with 48 hours of battery life. I'm fine with charging it every night but I don't want to stress out in case I forget to plug it in one night when I go to bed.

Do you even know what the differences are between both?

I did the research on this a while back, it's almost no different. Google fixed a security hole (the malware patch did similar), and there was an update to email and Gmail to fix a sending issue. Virgin included a radio update (which no one can get to work, not even LG or Virgin) and they fixed a routing issue with mms. There was one other thing but it was really really minor.

There is a malware patch around, and the email and mms were included in a patch I released.

Harmonia contains these already. The malware patch was put in place early on, and the updated mms and email were added later. Harmonia is kind of a hybrid 2.2.1/2.2.2

You don't get an update because of bad decisions on Virgin and LG part when they made the phone. If you want an update, buy a new phone, or root it and be done. Trust me, you will be MUCH happier if you root and rom it. It can almost double the speed and tripple the storage space.

Buying a "new" phone from VM may not help. I ordered mine a month after this thread was started and I got the old box. I also think it's a used phone and started a thread about that. A few days later VM put the OV and Slider on sale and there is speculation that they are going to be replaced with Chinese ZTE phones.

I plan to root and rom soon, maybe this weekend.

    What OS is it?

Also did you order a NEW phone from VM?
Or was it one bought as a refurb?

VM's site hardly ever lists the refurbs, but once you start the purchase and enter credit card info it will say if it is for a refurb or new phone.

I am pretty sure it is 2.2. Is there any way to check without rooting?

AFAIK it was supposed to be a new phone at full price - 129.99 ( vs about 99.99 on Amazon). I had a large balance with VM so I paid with that. I didn't notice anything about new/refurb on the payment page.

Virgin has ZERO plans at the moment (as far as we know) to release any phones that are truly better than the OV. Both new phones are 600mhz, same as the OV, and one has a 3.7in screen (.5in larger). That's it.

There are some angry Virgin users at the moment, I was one of them.
Their phones are severely outdated, and while they work fine, they really aren't giving people any options except more of the same.

    Settings>About>Firmware version.

Another thing to consider is maybe the phone was put in a old box because they ran across a stash of them.

But if you seen somebody else's email in the search thingy you probably got a refurb or returned phone.

I would look your receipt over and if you feel it wasnt fair contact VM. Tell them you thought it was for a brand new phone and once you received it there was somebody else's info on it.

Re: the VM vs Amazon pricing I havent seen or heard of Vm matching competitors when buying online. Now if you buy from a store like Radio Shack or Best Buy they will I believe.

    Android version: 2.2.2
    Kernel: 2.6.32.9
    SW: VM670ZV5
    HW: 1.2

That's good to know about matching prices at RS or BB.

I was all set to return this OV and get a Slider even before the sale. I even called and got an RMA number ( I think "Alex" hates me now). But I didn't want to get caught waiting for them to credit my account and then find the Slider was no longer available. I think I will just buy a $15 bluetooth keyboard from EBay. I don't even plan to activate the OV, just use the wifi, GPS and Skype.

That is a new phone. The original Optimus V phones came with 2.2.1 installed.

Its safe to say you probably got a refurb phone. As for the info in the search app...that is odd.
I know to flash the phone with the new update it would have to overwrite all older data.

Like said above if you are not rooted yet just do a facotry reset and it will remove all the data that is residual.

If that is all you want, find a Nexus or Evo with a bad ESN on Ebay, just as cheap and MUCH nicer for using.

I needed a way to use up my balance with VM. I've been on the top-up $20 every 3 months plan for over 8 years. The balance keeps accumulating and I had over $200. So the OV was basically "free".

And that's another reason I will stick with Virgin Mobile!

Imagine, any other carrier, your $20/month would have been used up by some technicality in the TOS.

I made the mistake a couple of years ago switching to TMo when a friend bought me the BB World edition. When I tried to cancel my account, it took just shy of 6 hours and the threat of legal action to get a $128 refund. I have NEVER experienced bad customer service with VM, though I sometimes wish for a translator.

FYI- If you have a TMo account, and you are canceling it, DO NOT HANG UP UNTIL YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THE PROCESS HAS FINISHED!!! I thought I had canceled my account, and was on hold waiting for the rep to say goodbye when I had to leave to take kids somewhere (couldn't wait, was on the phone for an hour trying to cancel). A month later, I get a bill for two months. After talking to 6 different reps over 3 additional hours, I finally found one who understood common sense. Seems their policy is to not cancel a plan if the call is disconnected during the procedure. They do not attempt to contact you in any way to let you know you didn't complete the cancelation, they just bill you. In my case, I canceled right at the end of a billing cycle, and then received a bill for two months on the next cycle, over a month later. I pointed out to the CS manager that there was no way for me to know they had not canceled my account as I had asked, since they never said I had to stay on the line, nor did they send me a bill till over a month later. He stated I would get my $140 back, but in the end I only got $128 back.

Virgin Mobile, no contracts, no hidden fees, no surprise bills months after you leave. I'll stick with VM!

I hope they don't go the way of AOL.
It was company policy that you had to cancel 3 times before they actually canceled your account.
