Does anyone have any new information about a possible release date for the HTC One V? Or if it's even still coming to VM?

I'm just not all that interested in the Evo but the One V seems like a nice little handset. If it doesn't come out for VM then I might go with the Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile.

Likely going to get the Optimus Elite and cross my fingers on development for the phone or research it myself over the summer

Shelling out an extra $120 annually and $300 for a phone and plan is not something I can afford atm.

I have made my mind up, I'm gonna get the HTC Evo V 3d. My ov was a good start for my first smart phone but I've outgrown it, it just will not handle what i want to do with it. Now that I've learned all the things I can do with one of these things I just wanna keep learning and doing more and more. I don't wanna stop! I just love technology! My ov will still be tested to its limits though because I'm passing it on to my son, it will be his first . He's really smart and has a nack for this stuff plus he's familiar with everything. He has been watching me from the first time I rooted thru all of the flashing and modifications I've done since joining the forums. Thanks to all the devs for their different roms, kernels, recoveries, and advice along the way. You all have given me so much invaluable advice, tips, tricks, etc. Now I'm ready for the next level!

Uggghhhh can this phone be released early already?!?!?!?!

Passed by a local gun store (second favorite hobby next to waiting for VM to release new phones) and saw a deal I don't know if I can pass up while waiting for this damn thing to be released!

Awww, it's a great phone for kids, it really is, especially one who wants to tinker. Works great, tough, lots of options, almost impossible to brick... I agree though, it was great to learn on and see the possibilities.

As far as the OV's limits, every time I think we have come close, it always finds a way to surprise us. Look at ICS, and the other new roms we have. No one could have predicted this. I know lots of phones where the users are screaming because they can't get any roms other than stock, much less ICS. Some are much more powerful, yet somehow we are out in front.

It's the little phone that could. Other phones may do it better or faster, but there is very little the OV can't do and lots it does that others simply can't. Then you add in the price for it and the service... It's a tough little thing to beat and no wonder VM sold an absolute ton of them.

Still about 90 sure that I'm getting the Evo. Gosh though I'm still considering getting the gnex and going with straight talk or airfire.

Alright, big shift in my thinking. I'm now heavily considering getting the unlocked gnex and going with straight talk. They've gotten some bad press with throttling lately but I use wifi 80% of the time.

Here is your chance to get me of of the ledge, lol!

It doesn't matter your percentage, it's how you use the phone.

And it's not just Straight Talks throttling that hurts them, it's the fact that they have no actual definition of what is abusive and a terrible warning system.

The general consensus (since they won't actually tell you) for SAFE limits is:
    100 megs per day
    1gig per month
An hour or two of radio streaming per day (MAX!)
3 Youtube Videos per day, as per Straight Talk's customer service (how this is a good limit is stupid since one video can be 500 megs).

Break any of these and you will get a warning. However, by the time you get the warning, you may have already crossed the ban threshold as it can take hours to receive. Continue to go over, regardless if you get the warning or not, and they don't throttle, they don't just turn off your phone, they cancel your service. Which means you could lose your number.

My number is worth more than cheaper service.

    Yep, and not as risky.

Ask your neighbors if they have T-mobile and how data is in the areas you are most, before switching. T-mobile phone service covers a nearby neighborhood that no other carrier covers, but their data won't penetrate my house or any house in that neighborhood.

On the other hand, I get 500-1500k Sprint data in my house, and I can get almost every 4g system at most of my job locations, including Wimax.

The ideal situation would be the gnex with t mobile, but they're not available in my area. The only other pre paid option that I know of is airfire, which is a local company that lets you bring your own phone.

And I really only use 3g to bride the web and occasionally stream music through spotify on my way to work.

Well it seems to be about a earlier deal gone wrong with Apple and payback for it so any thing could happen but the story this site has says they let everything else go thru but the 1X and the LTE EVO as of today.. I'm not waiting on one myself so no biggy but the ppl in that forum are not happy and this news will set a lot of ppl off who had their cc's pinged for $200 on pre order... I think your right or we would have gotten a email by now imo.. Thx.. 11 days to go..

Leslie, having the Evo 4g, how would you rate the video streaming on wifi? I know the 3d(V) is different, but something that is important to me is that I can stream mlbtv and Netflix without issues. I'm also concerned that the Evo V's build prop will prevent it from being able to stream mlbtv, even though the 3d is a supported device. Thoughts?

It's a dual core 1.5ghz processor with 1gig of ram, it's just underclocked to 1.2.
It's as fast as anything on the market when clocked back up, I don't think there is an app out there it can't really handle.

Build props are easy to tweak.

Since Jobs died, they have really picked up on lawsuits and such.

They no longer have the hippie stopping their moves to make the company a typical company, so I suspect they will make up for lost time and "lost profits".

Sadly I agree.. I mean lets face it they are the hippies imo.. So no wonder you don't see them anymore.. A 1.5 GHz Proccessor tuned back 300MHz is cool I didn't know that.. I read and read and the consensus is that it never chokes and freezes..

I could get use to that effect.. Of course that's a rooted handset of old I speak of.. It will be interesting to see this ICS rom on there along with 3.6 sense out of the box but I will bore of it quick and root it unless it's just that good.. It's getting rooted will be my bet..

You have to remember, even now, the Evo 3d is a high end phone.
Phones have leveled out a lot on the great race to the top, and from now on things will be small increments rather than the huge jumps we saw one and two years ago. It will require some major new technology before we see a massive jump again.

The 3d has only been busted down to pre-paid because of the Iphone and LTE coming out. In almost every other way, it's still a very current, high end phone. This is why I get annoyed at people stressing over no 4g coverage or it only having wimax or it the 3d being a gimmick.

If Virgin had told us they were going to offer us an unnamed or another phone with identical specs, with tons of developer support, everyone would have been excited as all heck. Instead, people heard 3d and Wimax and turned their nose before they even looked at what else was there. Many were far more excited when they announced the Triumph, for a similar price.

This is an honest to goodness, high end phone, not a rebadged, low end Chinese pile of junk. It may be a year old, but it's still a current, high end HTC that makes everything else in Virgin's lineup (and much of Sprint's) look like junk.

Thanks Leslie. Good info as always. I was a little concerned that I would buy the Evo and have immediate buyers remorse that I didn't get the gnex. But if they're essentially the same speed then I should probably spate the extra $100 and stay with a plan I'm used to.

Plus, something I didn't think about. The gnex has the soft buttons which takes up almost half an inch of screen space actually making the Evo slightly bigger.

Yeah, but it has a big ole backorder.

I'm still going to call a local Radio Shack to see if it's shown up there at all.

Also interesting that the Evo V is on VM's activation list. They must be expecting a couple to be had earlier than the 31st.
