not sure. i know the triumph was $299 as early as last week and this new price doesn't say its on sale like it usually does. and im liking the elite price...not so thrilled about its overall specs though. especially the screen size. but i suspect vm will reduce all the prices and push atleast one phone out of the line up,possibly two. but it's most likely going to be the rumor 2.

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
big whoop it doesn't matter since Virgina is hosing all of its grandfathered customers after May 27th. I called them today to ask about the upgrade policy and ANY phone upgrade after that date will require you to forfeit your grandfathered plan even if its to a phone that was introduced before May 27th.
So basically if my parents want to upgrade from their OVs to used Triumphs their SOL and to me that's completely unfair since that phone has been out for almost a year. - 05-11-2012, 11:10 PM #8
Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
I don' think that Triumph price is lowered, I thought it has been at that rate for over a month.
You can get the Elite for $149 in stores and probably the Triumph for well under $250.Last edited by LeslieAnn; 05-11-2012 at 11:18 PM.

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
No, you aren't hosed. You can't change to a newer phone, but you are perfectly welcome to keep an older phone and your grandfathered plan. And yes, you can switch to the Triumph and remain grandfathered.
Triumph is grandfathered, it doesn't matter when you pick one up. If you switch to one of the newer phones (released this month or later), you will lose that status, no matter when you buy it.

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
I realize this, but he said he talked to someone and they said after May 27th, any upgrade would cause you to lose the grandfathered plan. The notice they have on their site says "at this time" phones released before May 1st won't cause you to lose the plan. Maybe after the 27th it's all upgrades?

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
My understanding is that...
Any phone released after May 1st kills your grandfathered status, however, the new rate won't start until after the 27th.
So if you buy an Elite today and your monthly payment is due tomorrow, your bill would still be $25, but your next one would be $35.

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
$279 for the Triumph? No way will that stick alongside a $300 Evo. I thought I saw it for $229 a few weeks back for a period of time.
My guess, they're hiking it up temporarily to take advantage of everyone who doesn't understand that they can keep their grandfathered plans on any phone released before May 1st, no matter when they purchase it.--Chris [cole2kb]

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
Yes, the Triumph was down that low, for a sale. I expect it to drop below $250 about the time we see the Evo V, and maybe another 20-40 when the OneV drops. It's going to drop one way or another.
Virgin's prices are often higher than stores, probably to keep the stores happy.

i wonder. with the triumph becoming affordable to a larger group of people, would more people owning it bring more enthusiasm to develop more for the triumph than what is currently available? it is a powerful phone that has a lot going for it.

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
as for the triumph being $279 for awhile,i saw it listed on the phones listing on their site last week at $299 base price. but they change it so much. who knows. ive visted their site during sales events and prices changed daily. but owning a triumph at $25 a month is reasonable to me. but im leaning heavily towards the evo.

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
curtis I dont think lowering the price will get more people to buy it. If it does it wont be people that develop roms and such it will be people that want a larger phone for less money.
The dev community is not really impressed with the device. I think CM and AOKP could offer official support and people would laugh and ignore them. LeslieAnn posted once before they used a decent processor surrounded craptasic parts. The radios and such seem to have issues that Moto refuses to fix because VM wont pay for the devs to fix it. - 05-12-2012, 01:07 PM #21

Re: Price drops at virgin mobile usa
I wouldn't hold your breath.
What may help it, is the fact that it's a grandfathered phone, otherwise, I suspect most will go for the OneV or EVo V.
The problem the Triumph has now is those on grandfathered plans were around for the launch of it and not many will switch from the OV to it. Smarter, new customers will be more drawn to the OneV or Evo V, both being newer and HTC branded phones with ICS, better cameras, etc...
Then you have the current Triumph users/devs, many of whom jumped on it when released to get a faster, larger phone. If they jumped quickly then, then there is a good chance they will jump again to the Evo V.
If anything, I would say Triumph user numbers will stay flat. You will get some grandfathered users, but for each that switches to it, another will leave for the other newer phones.
I have heard two things going around about the Triumph... The first is that it's going to get an update, and the second is that it's going away. With four recent phone releases for VM in such a short period of time (Venture, Elite, Evo V and OneV, and still another possibly to come), how many of the old phones survive is anyone's guess. Do they really need two very similar phones competing against each other? Bring in another 4g into that price range, and you really start putting the squeeze on the Triumph as most of the newest phones fall directly in line with it. Also manufacturers have stated, it''s easier to develop for a new phone than to update old ones (probably because they short change the number of developers!). Considering how bad some updates have been for other phones and how bad the Triumph has been... I wouldn't hope for much.
I could see the Intercept and OV both going away due to age, and I could easily see the Triumph going because it's a one-off (only Virgin carries it) the return rates, and the fact that the OneV will be pretty similar in cost/size and performance. Some may say it's not very old, but it's nearly 1 year old (10 months), which is how long Virgin predicts phones to last, so while some are older, it's still a candidate for being dropped.
I'm surprised it keeps coming back up for sale.
It's a good phone, but talk about dated at this point. No 3g, 20 minute restarts, ancient browser... Blackberry kind of got what they deserved.

well i emailed straight talk today about throttling and cut offs due to 100mb daily usage limits and asked if it was a limit for one and two why should i switch seeing as my carrier only throttles after i actually reach my data limit...their reply was cut and paste from their online terms and conditions. completely avoided giving me a true answer. thats all i needed to know. no answer from them is as good as saying "yes you will be cut off at random and throttled even if you havent yet reached total usage limit" screw that.. ill just pick the $45 plan on vm for my talk needs and purchase either the one v or evo
